Default 9/8 WADE & BUTCHER FBU

    Hello All,

I've taken an extensive hiatus from collecting lately but have been peeking in here and there to see what's going on. I hope everyone is well. This one was on ebay up untill yesterday and I noticed that it wasn't getting tons of attention in terms of price flux so i dropped a last second bid and got it. I feel like the plain jane scales and pitting kept the price "reasonable", not sure. Someone will correct me...lol

Sellers write up was short and sweet..
LARGE WADE & BUTCHER FOR BARBER'S USE STRAIGHT RAZOR SHEFFIELD 9/8 +. I will only ship in the Continental United States. Please do not bid if you do not live in the U.S. I measured this razor today, and the blade is exactly 19/16.

I don't have it in hand yet but it's on it's way. Pics are from the ebay.

    Thanks for looking

Hey, welcome back. I noticed you haven't posted for a while. Then saw you did a time or two recently.
That razor looks good from the pictures. The tang seemed a little short in the first one but that may be from how they had the scales opened. Plus a really wide blade will do that to the look of the rest. That's an awesome find. I don't think I have seen that font style but I can just see it says Sheffield England which makes it post tariff so 1891 or later. Honestly I didn't even know they made big fat FBUs that late.
I'm excited for you! I didn't even see that one or I would probably have given you some competition. Let us know how it is when you get your hands on it.

The font on the stamps looks different to all the other FBUs I've see and same as Paul I don't think I've seen a FBU stamped England before. Looks in great shape with minimal hone wear.
    Great find

The etch is similar to the one I have, made for H.& J.W. King. Broadway, NY.

Yes I am more of a "lurker" these days hanging out mostly in the restoration section reading. Thanks for checking the razor out. I didn't even get into the weeds with the details when I saw it...lol Interesting that you called out the Sheffield, England part I don't think I've seen that before myself. Glad to bring something with a bit of uniqueness to the table.

Thanks Mark for checkin it out. Now I'm curious how common that it was to "mark" blades with city and state.

Nice razor. Thank you for sharing. It's cool to see all the different nuances from different makers and time periods. This W&B is missing that glorious finish that your has. Those big collars, shaped scales and overall shine. In due time though.
