Now a cleanup, some horn scales?
Not sure about the scales yet but I would like to find that thread and read up on it.
There's a W&B 1776 Army razor on the bay right now that has that same line and I've always wondered what that meant. Then I can start thinking about scales ...lol

I do hope you plan to clean it up nicely. No offense to anyone but my personal view, for right or wrong, and no value judgement on dissenting opinions is what some call "patina," I call "dirty, rusty old crap."

I just simply don't understand why you wouldn't want it to look as nice as it could. YOMD
So you're making a great point and I hear you.

If this was your razor what would you do with it and how would you choose to restore it.
Do you believe in the "Holy Grail" hoopla or would you put it in the SOTD rotation.

    Just collecting thoughts

I haven't restored anything yet, I have some pins & washers on order and a pre made scale but when I do manage to restore razors nicely, and i will because guys here do it really well and there's nothing stopping me from learning how to do it too. Anything I restore and keep will go into my rotation. Unless i end up with a hundred razors I don't see the point of just putting them somewhere to look at occasionally.

So the razor showed up today. I think the fastest that I've ever received anything from the bay.
5 minutes with a toothbrush and some 3M Marine Metal Restorerer & Polish and here were the results.

With most of the crud removed it had a pretty thin shiny bevel (based on what i've read here). Correct me if I'm wrong. Some hone wear the the top that of course I don't like. There is an ever so slight chip in the blade towards the heel. The blade measures at 7/8 but because of the curve it's hard to always get a solid read. The pins appear to be brass (because of color) and the scales appear to be wood. Some of the dark areas are rough to the touch, especially on the back of the blade. There will probably be some pitting left over. The blade sits center in the scales but there is some play at the pivot. All in all it's pretty solid. If there's anything that I missed in the description please let me know.

Thanks in advance - Cheetah Meat

Hubba hubba! Wolf whistle. That's awesome.

Yeah, you probably will have to live with a couple of spots left over from cleaning up but it looks really good all in all. I don't think that hone wear is very bad at all comparitively speaking. Are you sure that's not horn? I can't really tell. I might consider some horn scales if you were going to change anything.

    Congratulations on that!

What a great old razor. Congratulations. Jeez.......I can just imagine that razor in the hands of one of our pro restorers here at SRP. A scarce old beauty like that would be something really special indeed. JMO of course.

Yes it's the greatest story of how I attained a super rare razor that I couldn't make up even if I tried....literally by accident......LOL

    Thanks again

Apart from the fact I like it anyway, with or without Royal Windsor on the blade, I'm sitting typing this within sight of Windsor Castle.
