Another fine winning on eBay (or so I think) to add to the collection:

    eBay.be: Antiek Scheermes - Ancien Rasoir. (object 110259641477 eindtijd 12-jun-08 21:14:31 CEST)

Two more additions... really need to slow down

eBay.be: TAYLOR 1000 STRAIGHT RAZOR IN TIN CASE (object 300232299447 eindtijd 14-jun-08 23:10:57 CEST)

eBay.be: KINGS CROWN CELLULOID HANDLE STRAIGHT RAZOR (object 300232310250 eindtijd 15-jun-08 00:00:05 CEST)

And later this day I'm going to buy another minty looking Friodur for 30 euro's

I'm buying them just on the way they look and if that's pleasing to my eyes. I love large blades, white handles and/or special engravings. Hopefully I'm not making too many bad choices.

[QUOTE=chibbi;220914]Nah, I'll keep just keep using my Braun electric shaver. *blasphemy... I know *

If I were a Moderator I would ban you for life!! You have such a collection and you don't use it?!
    I would ban you for:

    1) blasphemy - you have great razors and use a plastic box with an electric engine to cut your facial hair;
    2) greed - you have a great collection of razors and don't share them
    3) political crime - you are a pawn in the ill distribution of wealth (meaning: razors!)
    4) blasphemy again! - you have a colection of straights and use a Braun electric shaver?!

No, really... you should try shaving with them. It's fun, it's the way to go! But then again... if you like the plastic thing, go ahead, have fun. Just remember not to give any of us your address since you might find your razors stolen and your knee-caps broken in a Mafia way...

Just make sure that you keep chiming in with your collection so we can envy you, ok? And try them... you owe it to yourself!

    Best regards,
    Francisco

I've got to admit, it's very difficult to view this thread with your razors you're showcasing for the reasons previously mentioned by other members. Even though I'll never be able to shave with your razors, it's always consolation to me when I see awesome razors that fellow members showcase that THEY will be shaving with them. It's like a warm feeling knowing a member of the family or a friend is going to truly enjoy something to its fullest.

I guess I feel the same feeling that others would in the following examples:

I cigar lover sees pictures of luscious rare cigars pictured by someone who possesses them and is told they'll never be smoked.

I scotch drinker sees pics of amazing vintage ancient scotches that are highly regarded and sought after and told they'll never be consumed.

    Well, you get the idea!

I'm not discouraging you from purely collecting these pieces, certainly they are giving you enjoyment by simply possessing them. With that in mind, I say more power to you. I'm just saying that I'm coming from a totally different place and perspective since far and away, the primary enjoyment I receive from the razors in my collection is honing them and shaving with them. Their collectibility is secondary to me. With that in mind, I can't relate very well to the concept of purely collecting razors.

So, some of the razors in your collection that are interesting and impressive hurt a little to look at.

Well, never say never... so I might take up wet shaving when time permits it. ATM I'm kinda busy with my newborn second son (4 weeks old this sunday). I simply don't have the time to learn how to hone and/or use a straight razor properly.

And when I do take up shaving with a straight, I'll probably buy a descent new, shave-ready razor and keep the above vintage razors in my display, sorry

Look at it as preserving, rather then wasting away... I mean, some of these are probably over a hunderd years old... makes one think...

You do have a point there. I have to keep focusing on that. If they're not being used as intended, it's better to have them on display than in a landfill. No question.
