Those scales are nice and should be salvaged. How about the seller who put one up in similar condition and said,"I think it may have been made this way".
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

One of my favorite boker scales! Snag a good restorable blade and you will have a really nice one.
