I got it from www.shavingshop.com I haven't seen any of these on EBAY that I know of. As far as I can tell and I just used it it seems perfectly fine to me. Straight as an arrow and sharp as hell.

You may have answered my question when you said "sharp as hell"....I take it this means they are definitely shave ready?

    Just wanted to double check

Need to learn enough about straight shaving to the point where I can replace the double edges with the one straight then I will think about getting something that's a bit prettier to look at. At the moment the stainless that I have is not much to look at but its a great teacher.

No, since it is brand new it does need it's first hone. I had him do it for me because I wanted to use it right away but really cause I stink at it! He finished it off with Diamond paste.

I have the 7/8 version of this razor and I have been very happy with it. It honed up easily and has held its edge like a champ. The scales are bland basic plastic but the blade is perfect. If you buy this razor, you WILL be very satisfied with it.

The razor is indeed gorgeous! Glad to hear it's also a fantastic shaver!

One question -- is there any downside to the diamond shaped spine --- longevity, durability, wanting to drag hard on the strop or hone, accelerated hone wear, etc.? I have to admit eyeballing the same one you bought, considering buying my first "big blade", and loving the stainless steel idea -- but was wondering if the non-diamond-shaped spine might give a bit more "ease of use" or "useful life"...

Is the blade a really really hollow grind, where you have to take careful measures not to flex it at all during honing? I seem to struggle with putting an edge on those thin-grinds --- still learning.

    Beautiful razor!!

If it does not shave well, you could always use it to thatch a roof

Yeah it is a beauty and will be even more so when I get rid of the plastic scales. The Diamond grind is just for looks. The contact area is still the same on the spine whether you are honing or stroping. As far as the strop goes as long as you do it properly by holding the strop firm and keep the blade flat without lifting the edge it's the same. I will say that with this blade and being the way that it is I have improved on my stoping tech. Honing the blade seems so much easier because of the size as well. The blade is fairly hollow but stiff and if you are worried about flex then maybe you just need a little less pressure! I use Norton stones and with them being 3" wide and since I myself haven't really done to well using the x pattern I run the razor straight across with a slight X and it covers the whole blade. The razor turns out pretty good for me. I will then go to the canvas with Cromium and then Balsa with the same but a very light touch of pressure. I would say it's a damn good blade for the $ and is now my favorite of the three I have.

    Thanks!
It shaves great. The best I've felt but I've only three so I don't know how it stands up to the many. There was some ice here a couple of days ago. though about taking down a hill but didn't want to scratch it.
