That is a real eye catcher! It has a "No Prisoners!" attitude toward whiskers. My F. Herders have been excellent shavers, and yours looks like it will remove a full beard with a few swipes, once cleaned up and honed.
    Congratulations.

Well for the last couple of days I have been having long conversations with this Herder.

We have decided that it will be sheathed in burgundy Linen Micarta. I am keeping the original lead spacer.

Nerf, that is what I have named it. Is up to 100 grit. I have been using oil and sandpaper to work a little faster. Not to get it done but because there is so much damage. It is actually coming clean. I do not want to post pics yet cause Nerf is still a little sensitive about his appearance.

I have found a great use for my 9.6v cordless drill. I put a 60 grit dremel sanding drum in the chuck and sent it for a slow spin to remove some of the pitting. No go. I reduced it slightly but the placement of the pits precludes me from digging. The pit by the 22 will stay as I do not want to lose the information. I am trying to reduce the other pits on the shank. The hinge area was just toast. It had so much gunk on it. It is gone now the gunk not the hinge.

BTW if anyone gets the Nerf reference they get a cookie.

I have ordered Linen Micarta in Burgundy and Paper Micarta in Ivory.

They should be here by Saturday.

I hope to have the razor finished by Monday. No promises though. I have a busy 4 days ahead of me.

Can't wait! I'll start looking for one of the original burgundy coloured boxes to match!

So I got back from Murray's class on Monday still no micarta. I sent Masecraft a nasty email on Wednesday asking where my stuff was.

I think I will not be ordering from them again. On top of charging me $8 for shipping, they sent it UPS which is slower than dirt. Oh yeah and they charged me $3 for the box so $5 for shipping. Oh yeah and they do not calculate shipping at the time of order THEY TELL YOU how your order ships and how much your order costs on a separate email.

On the good side the burgundy micarta is sexy. The paper ivory is nice and plain, but sophisticated. They sent me a sample of Mastadon pattern recon stone which I will use for either some knife handle scales or some straight scales. Not sure which.

I have never worked with micarta so any help with polishing would be great. I am about 3 days behind and so bear with me. I have one side to go. I hope to have it done by Sunday.

Until I get the stitches out and my fingers heal I am afraid that Nerf will have to wait.

I almost have it finished but I need to look at it outside first.

I get the stitches out in 12 days.

No worries, no-one's in a hurry and I'm quite sure it will be worth every second of the wait.

    Speedy recovery!
