    Default Estate Sale Score

This morning I was... not in top shape as a result of being out last night. I didn't think there was much I could do in my state to be productive, so I figured I'd work on cleaning some blades that I've had around. Just as I was getting started, I got a call from my ex. She was at an estate sale nearby and saw some straights. At first I wasn't going to go, because I didn't really feel like driving, but I figured I should at least take a look. So I asked how many/how much, drove over to the bank (got enough cash to buy them all), and hit the sale.

There were a bunch of blades, most with surface rust, some looked savable and shave-able. I ended up taking home 6. Here's the one I'm most happy about; first as I found it, and after a bit of cleaning.

This is actually the exact blade I wanted. It will match my reground/full hollow For Barber's Use that is in the same style. This one is an 8/8 wedge with a barber's notch. I think I'm going to leave a patina on it, to go with the other one I have, but I'm going to clean her up a bit more. Hopefully I'll have her rescaled into black horn in the near future too.

The best part, she only cost me $5.

    What are the other 5?
Here are some shots. They have been cleaned to various degrees. From left to right:

McCardle Blue Steel, McCardle's Supplies, GA
    Joseph Elliot's Best Silver Steel
WH Morley & Son's Clover Brand
Sheffield Steel made in Germany "The Admiral's"
    Geneva Cutlery

The Geneva and the Admirals are as clean as I'm going to make them; I'm going to hone them up and list them cheap in the classifieds. I haven't touched the Morley yet, but she'll have a similar fate. The Elliot will be cleaned more thoroughly, but I doubt I'll keep her since she's so small. I'm not sure about the Blue Steel. The tang, tail, and spine have a nice blued look, but there is some rust. I'm not sure how I'm going to approach her yet. Also not sure if I'll end up keeping her.

Nice scores. I'm liking that Elliot especially.

I always find it interesting how subjective these issues can be. The Elliot doesn't really do much for me, but I'd love to clean and rescale that Admiral's.
