Doin the turtle dance !! (no I don't have to poop)
for those of you who are not aware
tortoise shell does not come form a tortoise, rather a sea turtle
the Hawksbill sea turtle to be exact
they look like this
I put three because they are all different
isn't the first one spectacular? (can you feel the SCAD kick in?)

here is what happens when they turn Mr Turtle into razor handles
I'll be restoring these and pinning them on a new blade, just not sure what blade yet
funny how long it can take to catch a turtle
I now have elephant ivory and tortoise, walrus and whale ivory are next on my list

Nice, here is another oldie but goodie with genuine tortoise scales. Case Bros Springville, NY.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

wow that is dark Jimmy !!!!!!
and the blade ............mmm...... swayback..............
my first thought was honey horn stained to imitate tortoise
aka lots of Frederick Reynolds
but the secret is trying to figure out if the color is on the surface only, or if it goes deeper
and the stained stuff always stops abruptly (the color)
it never shades in and out

Mo' turtles: can we dance too?
Absolutely beautiful tortoise shell! There is nothing like the smooth slickness and inner glow of genuine tortoise shell. Here are mine: An Underwood and an extremely old Warranted. Both wedges; you can see how tortoise gets darker with age. It never loses that slick feeling and inner glow, though!

Jimmy, I know you will never part with that swayback. It is one of the coolest blade shapes I have ever seen! Is it tricky to hone?

Thanked: 13245Another one of Murphy's razor laws:
Anytime somebody posts a pic of a razor and says "Look at these tortoise shell scales" another somebody will say " Hmmmm those look like they could be horn"
This Murphy's law has another article that pertains to Genuine Ivory and Bone scales....
