Big Heljestrand...and a few questions
I just got this big Helje in yesterday. Tapers from 13/16 at the heel to 7/8 at the toe. On the case it came in (which I'm pretty sure is the original) it is labeled as Heljestrand and MK. The razor itself doesn't have any MK labeling as you can see in the pictures. I thought it'd be an MK 33. Anyone know if this was a later Heljestrand? Are they better, worse, different, or the same as the older ones?
Anyways, it was popping hairs when I got it, so I honed it a bit on a BBW with light slurry, then a coticule with very light slurry, diluted up to a clean coticule and did a buncha laps and finished with an Escher. The shave was nice, but I think I'm gonna run through that one more time to really smooth out the edge. Or I'll wait for a new stone that I just bought...
Sorry for some of the photos being upside down

NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!
I don't think they all had MK's. I've seen some without.

Nice razor. I can't help you on the markings, sorry.

Very nice blade you've acquired!
I'd have given it a test run before re honing if it was already popping hairs though. If a blade's already there you're just grinding away metal.
Enjoy it!

No, not mk33, those have different thumbnotch, double stabilizer, and jimps on top of the shank.

Well, I do have a some Heljes without any M K or any letter markings. I´ve done some research and found out that a M K should be a full hollow ground. But Neil Miller should know more, I´ve sent a question to him. This is one of my Heljes without number or letter markings, it´s smaller than yours though (11/16). PS The scales are custom and in camel bone , so please don´t look at them for any reference.

Thanks. I would have tested it out, but it wasn't really popping the hairs evenly along the edge and it felt kinda like a 1k edge from what I could tell.
Yea, I noticed that stuff after I thought about it a bit. The MKs have a distinct double thumbnotch look...
