Grandmother-in-law estate finds
We've been working on cleaning out my wife's grandmother's house and happened to come across Mr. Lester J. Mehrman's barber bag. There are about 6 hand operated clippers in there, one electric clipper that doesn't work (I'm going to dive into it tomorrow), and four straight razors which you can see below. There is a Swaty barber's hone, a pair of Carl Monkhouse scissors, and some unidentified clear stone thing.
Some razor that is too rusty to read the name:
Dubl Duck Pearlduck Special No. 1
Peter J. Michels
Some Asian razor?
The strange clear thing. Anybody know what it is? It is really hard, I just drug my fingernail across it and it is still giving me goosebumps....
Barbers Hone:
That's pretty much it, hopefully these will clean up really nice. I am really excited to try the Dubl Duck. I figure there has to be some reason they go for the prices they do on ebay.

Thanks, my significant other just gave me that same idea. We were looking at it and I wondered out loud what it was. She rubbed it on her face and it clicked.

Kingcobradude: I can only say that I don't think they are synthetic. If you look at the picture above you can see the brown speckling on the end of the handle. These brown spots are in relief, as if it were made out of possibly bone. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's either bone or ivory. However, I do not have the knowledge to say for sure, and the man to whom these razors belonged is long since passed away. If anybody else can elucidate what the material is, I would also be interested in knowing.
