Default Great way to start the weekend!

I have visited many antique stores. Left my name at a hand full of them incase they get soem razors. This morning was the first time someone called me back. When i got there i was not sure what to expect. First was a larkin but has a little rust and pitting. Then she took out the HIJO DE GARRIDO 14, 15/16 blade. Did the Fili make these?
Then her husband handed her one that was hiding in the back. It was the W&B Except for the little chip it is in great shape. 13/16 blade. The spots and streaks on it was from the wax i put on the blades. I hit one other store on my way back. This was the best one they had. Wester De-Fi. I know the scales are not original but they are Horn. Im a happy man. Hope to shave with the HIJO sometime soon.

    Rene,
Those look like very clean and nice scores . Well done. I think that chip is workable...it'll probably end up knocking 1/16"-1/8" off the blade, but it'll clean up real nice. Time to bring out your 600 grit or Naniwa 1k

Great score, I am quite jealous of the Hijo. I bet it shaves like a champ. Oh and I have something similar to the W&B, you struck gold. Congrats.

    Default Not really

No, but I will could put money it is from a Filly blank. I say this from the shape (it is very like the DT 14) and the fact that I have tried now a couple of Spanish non-filly size 14 razors that shave very similarly to the Filarmonica.

    Here are a couple:

My most recent one from Dylan:

    Imperial 14 – $75 « Holli4's Straight Razor Page

    And another:

As I say the shape is too similar to the Filly to deny. Since it is also manufactured in Spain it must be very similar. If it sings when you strop it this is also very much like the Spanish 14 razors. None of this is conclusive but you will know when you shave with it. Let us know how it shaves.

Wikipedia also tells me that apparently Toledo was the centre of Spain's metalworking industry. I really know nothing of that but it may be something to investigate.

Sorry this is really a couple of stabs in the dark but I think you have done very well with this razor, I would have high hopes for it.
