Thanked: 993W&B Celebrated Hollow, for Barber's Use, Tuckmar Silver Steel
Picked these two up as of late.
They are in the mail.
Thought you may all like to have a look.
The W&B is an 8/8.

Has the W&B been cut short at some point in it's life? It seems like it's cut at an angle... Or my eyes could be deceiving me...

I don't think I have ever seen a W&B with that etch without a barber's notch, but that doesn't mean they don't exist (as unmodified razors). Please post more photos when you have them in person with your thoughts.
A sweet pair of razors, BTW. Very nice haul.

Thanked: 993When I was looking at the W&B pictures, I thought the same thing, that it had been modified at some point. The seller believed it to be original, which as we all know, may not mean a darn thing.
There was also no front profile, so I was unable to check it from that angle. What I can say, is that in my relatively short time with this hobby, I haven't seen an 8/8 Barber's Use at the price I paid for this one. So, that's why I pulled the trigger.
I also did some heavy searching last night, on our threads, and many others. I did find a couple of interesting photos. A long time back, on the Shave Den, Glen rescaled a 7/8 or 8/8 W&B Celebrated Hollow Shorty, with the same point. It may also have been modified. I also found a pack of photos from Kenrup, who had fixed up a couple of old W&B's. One was the same point, but again, it was a 7/8 Celebrated. The other was a Barber's Use, but with the notch. I too have only seen For Barbers Use with notches, so it will be interesting to get this one in the mail.
Either way, I'm restoring it, and shaving with it. I like the big blades on the weekends.

Thanked: 993If the tone of my last post was defensive, I apologize. That definitely wasn't the intention. And you're right, no one said it was a bad razor.
Holli4 asked for some thoughts, and these were the ones that were running through my head last nite. I'm spellbound by both of them actually. I'm very excited to get that silversteel honed on the Tuckmar, and slip the blade into some uber dark scales so that the brass pops.
I'd still like a W&B with a notch, and I'll still hunt for one, but in the meantime....shorty it is

Don't know if the W&B chopper was cut down or not, but it would sure fill a gap in my own collection! Congratulations on the find. The Tuckmar is really going to surprise you. The two I have had, both identical to yours and with original nice wood scales, were not just good shavers; they were fantastic. And the scales polished up with carnauba wax to a deep luster. I never considered changing them.
