The Holier Grail
Only because i think there was a post a while back called "the holy grail"
Anyways, I may have come to the end of my razor buying journey.. Just picked something up.. not cheap but i reckon not as expensive as it could have been..
This is my razor equivalent of a 62 fender strat..
I picked up a Le Grelot, same style as my TI desert ironword Grelot form, can't post pics right now but will as soon as i get the razor
for ref here's the TI, the actual le Grelot has the same thumb notch, a longer blade, no gold wash or engraving, just a simple clean blade with a stamp on the tang, and black celluloid handle

I have always liked that style of blade, just something about it.

Can't seem to edit my original post but The razor arrived today so here it is:
and like i said, is basically my holy grail razor wise. It's a 6/8's, quarter hollow. Needs honing but the blade is more or less perfect, some staining that'll come out with polish and no pitting, not sure the scales are original as they're a little short and loose at the wedge end. Thinking i might change them for some nice TI scales.

Thanked: 240I say replace the scales but have some custom work done, TI replacement scales are too expensive anyway. I've had custom jobs done cheaper and the fit is...well custom.

tekbow,
Mr Neil Miller does stunning re-scaling; his translucent Rams-horn is a great favourite of mine
Have fun !
Best regards

I think i may go with this actually, been having a look at the scales closely and either the QC issues with TI years back applied to a few french companies or these are just a bad rescale, it almost looks like each side of the scale are from two different sets, one is wider than the other, and the wedge actual rattles a little. This razor deserves better scales
Phatman, yeah I've just bought a strop from Neil and he helped me out with some bits and pieces when i was repinning my first few razors so i may well give him a shout. Can't sing his praises high enough TBH. I'm a wood man myself though
Cheers

Simon,
Mr Miller has done some ebony scales for me for an old W&B, and they too were superb
Have a chat with him, as I believe he has many woods in stock.
Please have a peek here : Hand Made Straight Razor Scales
Good luck !
Have fun !
