A new gift! Bartmann 504 High Class Manganese steel
Today I paid (with my parents) my mothers cousin and his wife a visit.
Appearantly he's an antique collector and had about 76 nice straight razors.
After I checked them out and telling him I'm also a 'collector' and I also shave with them, I received this one from the guy.
A nice gift I think
Any thoughts on this one?

That's a beautiful Bartmann, with not much hone wear, and no bevel issues I can see. The restorers around here might give you some pointers on clean-up, but I think a weekly visit to these people is in order!
There are many roads to sharp.

I just measured the blade and it's a big big blade...over 15/16.
I'm quite pleased with it

Thanked: 20Bartmann's are excellent razors, you lucky dog!
That blade looks that have seen some hand-sanding at one time, faint horizontal scratches on the blade. The black stuff is rust, the dreaded "devil spit" that leaves pitting underneath.
Be sure to coat that with oil or something to prevent more rust.
