Default My 1st Shave Kit... On a Dime

Excited to start my 1st shave in a week or so.
Sending my blades out in the next day or so for sharpening (Contacted Lynn about his services and got an email back in less than a couple hours).
Blades $3 each from friends yard sale.
    After Shave Balm $3.50
    Stick $.98
Brush, Soap Bowl, and Soap combo from VDH $9.90
    Glass Bowl from walmart $1.50

My strop should be here Monday. Also coming in Monday should be my Cream from Art of Shaving (yes the cream is the most expensive part of my kit)

Once I get the hang of this skill I plan on stepping up my kit. But its not that bad of a start for a broke college student.

Not bad and all for under 30 dollars (well minus the aos cream). I would suggest a badger brush next, I have a vdh brush and it works but when I switched to a badger it was far better, just my opinion though. I do really like the vdh soap I also use out in the shower when I run out of my regular soap out smells great. Never tried aos cream but hear great things about it.

Great start, I have the AOS soap in wood bowl, not the cream. I think you will be happy.

Thanks, I heard alot of good things about it online. The only thing im not sure on is the cheap strop i ordered for about $15. But its a starter one that will more than likely get sliced.

I use The Art of Shaving cream and I love it. It takes incredibly little to get a great lather. Its a great product you will love it.

I use about what fits on your finger nail and it gives me more than enough lather for a great shave and lather my face 3 times to get all around. 1/2 tsp seams like alot now that I have used the product but experement with it and you will love it.

I have several soaps, with Art Of Shaving Lavender being my best. I would try it first with just a little hot water. then the next shave with about 5 drops of glycerin, a half teaspoon is quite a bit, IMO. I would not start off with adding "soapy" water to it; try it, but enjoy the AOS first without it.
