A Little Early Christmas Present
I got a call today from my wood supplier where he asked me to meet him at a Burger King about a mile from my house. When I got there he popped the trunk on my car and placed something inside. Told me not to peek until I got home. When I got home my wife met me outside and brought the package inside.
Being back on a cane it took me sometime to get myself where I could see what it was. When I walked in my wife said, "that's pretty, is it maple?" When I got the chance to look I had nine pieces of 2" ebony sticks sitting on my livingroom floor. This could make a few scales, brushes, whatever and maybe a cane to replace my old one. These pieces are between 40" and 48" long.
I really didn't know what to say, but wow!
Man, I love this stuff.

Thanked: 993Sounds like your wood supplier is a pretty good person. I would think that a gift like that is one that occurs when a friendship exists, and not merely a supplier/customer set of transactions.

What a great Christmas gift. That wood is a story waiting to be told! I hope you delight in all the possibilities and a piece could certainly make a beautiful cane. We will need pictures and updates. : )

Yes, he is a friend and has been for sometime. We used to fish together and I worked with him as a cabinet maker.
Pending approval a piece of this will become a brush for Mr. Bob Allman and I have already ordered a handle junction to make my cane. Whether in this thread or another I will update regarding this wood. I really cannot decide what else to do with it as I don't turn many spindle items.
