Witch hazel is an astringent, in that applied topically, it causes tissues to shrink. That's where its value as a post shave treatment comes in -- capillaries feeding weepers get pinched off, stopping the bleeding.

It doesn't lubricate nor can i think of any way it might soften whiskers. You could give it a try, though, and let the rest of us know.

Nice. My last purchase was a bottle of Thayer's lavendar and a bottle of Thayer's cucumber. Personally, I like the 'bite' of alcohol and did the same thing you did by adding some to each bottle. In addition, I added about 6 drops of Lavendar essential oil into the lavendar and 4 drops of eucalyptus oil into the cucumber for a personalized touch.

Yeah, Dickinson's is great stuff. I also like Thayer's which we get here for around $10.00. I bought a bottle of Thayer's with rose for my wife and she likes it a lot. There is also available Murray & Lanman Agua Maravilla Witch Hazel. I'm nearly finished with my bottle of Dickinson's so I'lll probably try this again. I think it has alcohol but ever since I went into straight razor shaving I haven't used it. BTW, I put some lavender essential oil on the Dickinson's and it feels very good. I feel its astringency when I apply it sometimes for a quick shave with the DE, so I really wouldn't try it as a pre-shave.
