Default Finally made it into the "Zowada" club!

For three years I've patiently been watching ebay in hopes of snaring a Zowada SR, I was getting pretty depressed with the rising price of the razors at Classic Shaving...they were getting further and further out of my budget, and I was so sure the bidding would break $1000 or higher with TZ's now going for $1500 to $2500, so I didn't have high hopes. I almost got it for $250 but someone put a last second bid in driving it up to $616(I'll bet it was a SRP member). Either way, I now have to figure out how to keep my wife from finding out how much I spent or she'll use a part of my anatomy as a human strop.

I suspect the razor is an earlier piece, 4/8 half hollow with what appears to be Cocobolo scales. The seller claimed it was from the estate of a collector(anyone know anything about that?) I sent photos to Tim asking if he could give me a history on the razor but have not heard back from him yet. I'd welcome any feedback.

No matter the size, a Zowada is a superb shaving instrument of the highest grade.
    Congrats on a beautiful razor

LOL - there was no way you were close to getting it at $250 lol - but last second bidding is just that - last second, and one can only punch in so much with a slow internet con lol!! Congrats!!

Thanks to all for the congrats...I'm as giddy as a kid getting his first serious bicycle.

I just had a nice PM from Tim who confirmed that this razor was one of the first batch of ten that he ever made. I'm waiting to hear back what year that places it. Since we all know that Tim Zowada is an icon in the knife and razor world, I feel like I just came into a piece of history.

You are probably right but I suspect a lot of people(read SRP members) hesitated on bidding high for it because the engraved initials are on the blade and not the shank, the scales are two piece and separated by a steel spacer, and the seller went to great lengths to not outright state this was a Tim Zowada made razor. Add to that the fact that TZ razors are now starting at $1500 and who knows. A friend was convinced I just won a counterfeit. Thankfully, Tim just confirmed it's one of his first ten razor ever made and his style has evolved since.

No issue at all with Tim's initials on the blade on this razor. I have a 5/8 done the same way. There is no mistaking a Zowada damascus blade for any thing but a Zowada. You are going to love her! Enjoy.

WineGuyD, I hope you enjoy your razor. It brings back lots of memories.

Just one minor update: Now that I am no longer affiliated with Classicshaving.com, my Damascus razor prices start at $990.00.

    Hi Tim,

A bargain! As I just posted on another thread...

A plumber recently spent an hour in my house clearing multiple blockages...$500. An electrician charged me $600 to wire my out door spa(2 hours work)...and lets not even get into what lawyers, accountants and doctors charge per hour. How many hours do you think Tim spent forging his Damascus steel), machining and finishing the razor blade, carving and finishing the scales and putting it all together? Best bang for the buck I've ever seen.

Tim is an artist, an artisan and a treasure...generations from now collectors will be seeking his razors out and paying Faberge prices. My newly acquired TZ is now officially a family heirloom that I hope to leave one day to a grand son or future son in law. And, yes, I plan to shave with it every Sunday!
