Default First Straight Razor - Hamburg Ring

    Hello folks,
So today has been an exciting day... I have my first straight razor. Ive taken some photos for you to all take a look at.
It was a bay special... Got the winning bid for £11 inc delivery.
I would appreciate it if you could all tell me your opinions. My plan is to get new scales on it and give it a really good clean. Im intendimg to use this until i get the hang of using a straight razor then get another one.

I like the scales! Maybe, you don't like yellow or want something fancier. It wouldn't be a mistake to replace the scales, but they are nice as they are in my opinion.

She's a beauty as is. I would leave the scales as is, hand polish the blade, hone and shave with it. Use the "Library" section above on how & enjoy your journey.
    Thank you for sharing it.

I agree with the others. Leave the scales be. Use metal polish to clean up the razor.
I have a hamburg ring they are good shavers.

Nice find! I like it! I'd just polish up the blade with a soft cloth and some metal polish. You can also get an automotive plastic lens polish for the scales. I think that if you will be patient and put off custom scales you'll find a razor later that you will enjoy fancier scales on

I would also advise that you get it professionally honed. That way when you do hone it, you will have something to compare with!

    Enjoy the ride!

It's a beautiful razor, I also find the scales ok. I agree also that you should get it professionally honed.

Nice find. I have one similar in 6/8. Great shaver. Use it in good health.

Thanks for your feedback gents. I have been having a think about the scales... Im swaying to the direction of new scales because it appears that sometimes the blade can catch the scales when folding and due to this there is a small crack running down the top of one of the scales. Ill keep you all posted though.

    Evening all.

So a quick update about my first razor. I decided in the end to buy some new scales as i wasnt happy with the condition of the old ones as i noticed a few cracks and on Thursday just gone i sent it off for a full restore from out very own Celticcrusader. Its going for a good old polish, new scales fitted and honed shave ready. I cant wait to receive it back and to have my first shave with a straight. As soon as i receive it ill post some pics.
