Default Place your bets... Greaves razor from eBay

Found and bought a Greaves razor from eBay. Pictures suggest there's excessive hone wear and perhaps a chip in the blade as well.

The price was decent so I took a punt. Im having it shipped directly to gssixgun for evaluation for restoration.

What do you think? Was I perhaps lucky or will I be returning to the seller (the seller described as good condition so am relying on PayPal policy)

Would love to hear your thoughts, will post gssixgun's report on the condition once he receives and has time to evaluate.

Can't really tell anything much about the blade's condition from the poor quality photos.

I saw that on eBay. The spine seems to have excessive hone were and in even wear. I personally turned away. Hope I am wrong and you got a good buy. Best of luck.

For the price for two blades, think you did very well...I think the Greave's are fantastic razors, never seems to be enough of them! Worst that happens is you struck out, which you were prepared for, otherwise, you're getting a great, fantastic piece of history!

    Nice find!

Yes, I know this was definitely a punt, hence the poll, place your bets. Could go either way I think.

I can't even tell what the 2nd razor is.

I think it will be a keeper unless there is a major issue that can't be seen in the pics. just might end up needing some special attention while honing. I have a greaves that i have to make some new scales for and i will be using.

I think she can be saved.
I have to say I don't agree with the ship it back. You saw the pics, you state that you know its a chance. Youve made your bed, now well see if You sleep in it.

Normally I would agree with that, but the seller didn't have good pics and had disabled (or ebay disabled) the option to ask questions about the razor. Normally I scrutinise the pictures, ask questions when necessary and accept what I have bought, for good or bad, but didn't have the chance with this auction, so I had to take the seller at his word when he said the item was was in good condition. If he didn't state it was in good condition I would not have bid to be honest.

Soooo Andrew. The poll is silly, IMO. It does not have the option I would have voted on. ( if I did! ) You bought a razor and took a chance. The pictures are bad, so no one here could evaluate the thing. You convinced the seller to ship to Glen. You are in AU, so is Glen going to get in the middle of this potential 'return' or is Glen going to ship it to YOU in AU so you can ship it back to the seller, wherever he may be? (assuming not AU). Glen is a lot of things to a lot of people, but somehow I don't think handling your ebay returns is in his job description. 14 day money back, you won't make it and will be out too much dough. Bet it does not go back. JMO

I dont see how Glen would be stuck in the middle, wouldnt ask him to be... the transaction itself is between myself and the seller and no third party. Glen restores all my razor purchases, therefore is the person who needs to evaluate whether he can restore it or not. Glen would be welcome to ship back to me with my other stuff with him at the moment and in turn I can send back to the seller, just seems like a waste of shipping to send it all the way back to Australia then back to the states again.

Im hoping not to send it back to the seller, as I like the razor and hope to be able to use it. If anyone can save it, Glen can.
