Default Yet another great weekend at the old junk shop.

Over the weekend I went hunting the junk shops and came away with two strops, a Gillette Flair Tip, a Levering Razor Co The "Artist" straight without scales, a 4x2 soft Arkie and a mini anvil; all for the sum of $40.

The strops are a Geo. Worthington and an Alaskan Seal.

Very nice finds! I know the feeling of finding really good things, especially when the price is better then what you expect. I'm jealous!

Excellent haul. We have junk shops in Rochester, too, and all I 've ever found there was, well, junk.

Cool finding stuff in the wild, that small anvil look perfect for straights, great find at the right price!

It would be awesome if it was seal leather(I know they made them). I have the feeling, though, that it is one of the strops that were made of cow or horse hide and prepped/tanned using seal fat.

Just a quick update. I cleaned the seal strop and gave it a small amount of 100% mink oil and tried it out today. Took several strokes to get used to how slick it was, nothing like my latigo. Gave a great smooth edge to my vintage Bismark. Definitely going to go into rotation with the latigo strop.

What is the right way to clean a vintage strop?

I gave it a quick wipe with a damp cloth to get most of the surface dirt off and then went with some saddle soap and a soft horse hair brush. After it dried I used a tiny amount of mink oil to soften up the leather a bit.
