Default 10/8 Wade and Butcher For Barbers use only

This one didn't go for as much as others that I've been watching lately. Some people are bidding upwards of 350 for these things. I'm not speaking in specifics so I hope that I'm not breaking the rules of the forum but it's alittle out of control on EBAY right now so I haven't posted anything new in awhile.

Whoever posted did themselves a diservice only posting one pick but at the same time as i'm writing this it might bite me in the butt too if theres something wrong with it. I'm an idiot...LOL

Just another one for the collection. Prob will be the biggest mass production straight that I own....for now

    thanks

That's going to look quite magnificent when she's fully restored, because I'm the first person to reply to this thread I think you should pass the razor directly to me as a act of kindness and generosity.

You are right there is alot of madness with the prices on there.
I don't feel those are the best of the best.
There is a vintage german blade i bought rusty and it has a chip in the tip of it.
i bought it cause a came with a vintage english blade of a good size.
I was thinking abut fileing the metal down a bit to get ride of the chip.
I got to tell ya it's hard stuff the file didn't do much to it.
I am cleaning the rust off it right now.
it's alot of fun hope i am doing it right.
but i went crazy buying english blades this one i think i like it alot more.
it's nicer as far as hardness then some of my less old german blades.

That is a wedge one, Cheetah. Note the lack of double stabilizer. From an eyeball perspective, I doubt it is 10/8. Heavy blade, for certain. Rarely seen with cracks as they are so thick. They shave awesomely. If some wonder about the percieved "hype" on these old FBU's, there is a reason. Not only are they beautiful razors, they were made top-quality. The shaves they provide are excellent. JMHO

Nice Grab, its hard to tell from the picture quality though, but is that a chip on the toe half of the blade? I bid on that razor too but dropped out early. Post pictures when it comes in!

if it's not it's going back. If its around 9/8 it might still a keeper but my quest for the largest straight razor continues. WB's have a way of growing on me so we'll see! What are stabilizers on a straight razor?

    Thanks

Years of lookin at them give an educated measurement as to relation to the tang. I would put it at an incher, maybe a bit more. W&B made em in the wedge and hollow ground. Look here where the tang intersects the blade. The extra stabilizer means a hollow ground. Many were reground hollow and usually have another, telltale stabilizer visible.

Thats a nice looking piece. Stabilizers...ah yes. I was wondering what that was about. I did know that it could have been from a regrind since the wedges dont come with them.

I def don't have a huge celebrated hollow yet though. I will have to measure this one when it comes but I can def see the difference in size between the 2 blades. I am hoping it's just the way it was layed on the scanner. fingers crossed of course. thanks for the info and pic for reference.

Here is a picture of a 10/8 wedge. Pretty heavy blade but shaves really well. It looks like there is a chip on the bevel at the toe, but it is a product of the picture.

Yeah I got her in the mail a couple of days ago and the seller was a freakin liar. I laid it on a ruler and fell right inbetween the inch markers so I sent it back. What a waste of time. Clearly it's not even close to 1 1/8. I can now put my college fund back in my coin jar...LOL
