Well, I could not wait. I worked from home today, so in between projects and during lunch, I polished this balde and scales with Mother's and Cape Cod polishing cloths, and set the bevel and honed this razor up to 12k Naniwa. It has the smallest, tiniest bevel I have ever seen! I measured the blade first, thinking it was a little smaller than 5/8, but it measured 11/16. Weird, because it looks small, although my eyesight is not the greatest. So I will in all probability shave with this razor tomorrow morning, and if I have time, will post it in the shave of the day forum. Now I better log off and keep working since I spent time today on this razor.

So, yesterday I showed, now I'm telling. I used this razor this morning for the first time. Was not sure what to expect because it took me about 15 minutes total to set the bevel and hone this razor up to the 12k Naniwa. The shave was incredible. This tiny edge is silky smooth, and left my face sticky smooth. I finished with an alum block, which confirmed the smoothness of the edge, and Pinaud, which left no burn, just a lovely scent. I posted the below pics on the SOTD forum; I'm posting them here to show how the razor looks after the polishing and honing. This razor is a keeper. I will probably give it to my son in about 10 years (he'll be 27)!
BTW, I did get a pretty good cut on my chin. Had to hold the stypic for a while to stop the bleeding and seal the wound, like I was a boxer in the ring. It was 100% my fault, well, maybe. The reaper dude's reflection in the mirror caught my attention as I was going left to right on my lower chin, using my left hand. As I tracked him in the mirror, SLICE! Yeah, that reaper is blood thirsty for sure. Guys, don't check out your scales when the razor is in use.

The reaper looked good yesterday, today with a shine on it looks marvelous. Glad to hear that it honed fast and shaved well. I can not wait to get my razor and gear and start shaving! "don't fear the reaper"

Last report on this razor. This Vesuvius is very similar in feel to the only Dubl Duck I have, a 6/8 Goldedge. 8 hrs later, the area where I went ATG, my chin to my lip, is still BBS. Incredible. Glad I got this razor and I do feel very fortunate. I hope my 17 year old son is using a straight someday when he's older and settled, because this is one I would love to give him years from now. Guess I'll be using this one every 8 days or so! Yee haa!
