    Default Big job breaking out!!!

Got this razor in a lot of three French razors the other day. It seriously looks as though it has been dug up, the scales looked like Swiss cheese and fell apart as soon as I started handling them . I'm dying to get stuck into this and try and give it an overhaul to see if it can be saved. Who knows?!!! A little rust removal is in order first me thinks!! It's a Duma saine 32 wedge, or that's at least what I think it says under all that, I've give the tang a quick sand to I.d it. Around a 5/8. Whaddya reckon??!!!Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1350598920.310045.jpg

Hmmm that's alot of rust on that edge, but then again it could be alot of surface. You never know til' you dig in. If anything it's a good one to make mistakes and learn on if it's not salvageable.

Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Dumas Aine, I think. I used to own one. Good steel under that rust, good luck with the restore.

Well, if it's a wedge, then you have a lot of metal to work with. Hope it turns out good for you. Let us know.

Definitely will have to let us know how the restore turns out; looks like that can be a really nice razor after its given some love.

Good thing it is shoulderless. Hope you have enough blade left after the cleanup.

    Default Big job breaking out!!!

Well, after a good few hours of sanding, from 40 grit believe it or not, progressed up to 2500 and then a good buff with autosol and mothers mag here's how she turned out. It's far from perfect, I didn't manage to remove ALL the pitting, especially around the tang just because of the sheer amount of metal I would have to remove. I'm happy with it so far, and have checked the edge out under my loupe and to my astonishment it looks fine, it's not chipped or pitted at all. Can't beleive my luck!!! My next job is to make some scales for it as the originals were completely goosed as you can imagine. Can't decide on the material or style of scales yet? Any ideas?? What do you think so far? Any advice would be great, thanks!!!Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1350770357.099845.jpg
