Default Found some cool vintage equipment rooting through and old box in the attic

My grandmother is 102 and finally had to move into a retirement home because she can't live on her own anymore. When my folks sold her house they boxed up a bunch of old "junk" and put it in a box up in the attic. I have been talking about SR shaving incessantly to anyone who will listen and just now it occurred to my dad that he may have some of his dads old equipment stored somewhere. I rooted around and found a bad to the bone vintage mug, a brush of unknown hair type, and what I assume is a brush for dusting your face and neck after. Not a big find but it will go well with one of my vintage razors I found at an antique market. Anyone else just happen to come across any cool stuff?

I was asked by my mother a couple of years ago to get an item out of an old curio cabinet, unrelated to shaving. I don't even remember what it was. I got the item out, then noticed a thin black box in the cabinet, I reached in, removed it and asked what it was. My mother said that it was my grandfather's straight razor. Inside was a Wade & Butcher in beautiful condition. Also there was a hand written note from the 70's , written by my great aunt tracing the razor back to my grandfathers, going back to the 1820's.

My aunt was the head librarian for the University of Mississippi for 50 years, before she died. She had documented our families history back to the late 1600's. Now the only family member left that took the responsibility to keep the history going is me.

The finding of the razor lead me to SRP.

If your grandmother is still alive, I bet she would love to tell you about that shaving equipment, the man it belonged to & I bet many other things in her & your life, that you are not even aware of.

That is an awesome find, and really cool how its tied back to the past. I can remember watching my grandfather shave with his. I think my uncle may have is razor and his strop and I am sure if he knew I would actually get enjoyment out of using it he would gift it to me. I will ask him about it next time I see him. Good idea about asking her about the equipment.

Here's a story. I went to visit my wife's uncle in South Florida about 3 years ago. He's 95 years old and lives alone. He's truly an amazing man. We spent the day with him, got something to eat, and I picked his brain. Now, I was Forty something at the time, in great shape, and had a hard time keeping up with him. If you can find someone almost 100 years old and still sharp, they can tell you some amazing stories. Here's a man who was born in 1917 and lived through the great depression.

When I asked him about his father, Who came from Sicily, He told me they settled in New York City (of course) and his Father was, Yup, you guessed it...A Barber. I thought I'd struck Gold. Surely, this man must have kept something, some momento he'd want to pass down. An old stone, An old razor perhaps...

    Nope, Nothing...Bummer.
