Thanked: 1195One way of determining scale material is to heat up a pin/needle and touch it to an inconspicuous section of the scales; if it melts it's plastic/celluloid and if it doesn't it's ivory. However, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to tell once you have it in your hand as opposed to going to extreme lengths
Nice find, BTW.

Can't believe I won this razor
Thanks... to be honest I had tried on a Twin Duck, and a red imp. I lost both of those cause they went out of my budget. Funny thing is I figured that this one would be also so I bid $40 2 days before it closed and had not even checked it and I was on the phone when my eBay app notified me that I had won! That's just too funny the one I had forgot about I won without any effort and the ones I watched closer I got scalped at the last second!

Nice catch! I have a Wester Bros with a blade that looks to be identical, including the dulled gunmetal tang. Mine shave like a dream and interestingly enough is an extreme hollow grind. Enjoy!

Thanked: 1184I was tempted to bid on that but I am trying to stick to ducks . I sure wanted it, but, I am glad you got it. Great deal !
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I've owned a bunch of Wester Bros razors. They are awesome razors that don't get the fanfare of the big name razors, but take an edge like the best of them. You got a winner.
Those are celluloid scales. Cool that they have bolsters, only 1 of the 8 that I have owned had bolsters.
