Dream razor attained!!! W&B HG FBU
Got off work tonight and checked the mailbox. I reached in and felt around only to have my hand stop at a box. As I pulled out the package my face developed a devilish grin. I couldn't wait to open it, I felt like a child on Christmas morning.
Well, here it is...
I know, that's a lot of pictures. But I wanted to get some opinions from you gents about my next move. As you can see it needs some work. But before I do anything I have some questions.
I am guessing this is all original, but I could be wrong. Any clarification on that would be helpful.
Should I attempt to restore or would you all recommend I send it out? Given it looks all original I don't want to mess anything up, nor do I really have the tools. I have sandpaper up to 3k and mothers polish. Stones are 1k,4/8 combo and a barber hone.
Are those hone marks or just the way those hollow grounds look? I checked a lot of photos online and they all look kinda different when it comes to that "spine meets hollow ground" area. If it is hone wear that's fine and dandy, it just doesn't match on both sides so that may urge me to send it out if the hone wear is uneven.
Either way, just wanted to share this with everyone. I would like to thank this website for furthering my knowledge and interest of straights and the IBSCS for their support and friendship.Last edited by JackofDiamonds; 01-18-2013 at 06:16 AM.

Congrats! I have that bad boy's twin here and it's a fantastic shaver!
Can't say for sure from the pics but those scales look like they are in great shape. Give them a good soak in 100% neatsfoot oil and I bet they'll come back to life nicely.
Is there much rust down by the pivot? If not you may get it back in use without unpinning. If there is, then I'd probably send it to a pro if you're not feeling too confident. It would be nice to keep it all original as you say. On mine the only thing I could salvage other than the blade was the wedge.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

There is quite a bit of rust around the pivot, and yes, the scales look great. I really have only restored 3 razors. All of which looked a lot better to start of with. Cool that we have twin razors though!

Looks very original, including the scales which will restore and polish up really well in my opinion, I would give it the full monty if it were mine.

Thanked: 3228Congrats on finding your dream razor and for that reason I would send it to a pro for restoration. It really looks to be all original too. Keep us posted when you have her all done up and shaving again.

First thing I would do with that is hone it to get past the rust at the bevel. If the black stuff isn't clean into the edge you'll be alright. If it is you'll have to hone until you get past the pitting because the edge will keep falling apart until you do.
Looks all original to me too. Nice example of a fine razor.
