Absolutely mint 11/16 Shumate Barber
It arrived today! Not a speck of rust, original grind marks on it, never been honed or used at all. Factory edge still pops arm hairs at skin level effortlessly, though won't cut them above the skin. It's just brand new, paperwork included, and beautiful!

Re: Absolutely mint 11/16 Shumate Barber
Now, should I reset the bevel, or should I just touch it up somehow and try to shave more or less as is?

I'd say try the touch-up, and if that doesn't do the trick then take a step back to reset the bevel.
Congrats - that's a nice looking razor!
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Thanked: 3225Yea, I would just touch it up first and if that is not good enough start lower down the progression. Very nice razor and find.

I believe I'll do just that. Thanks guys!
Love my Shumates, this is number 4 for me. Nothing fancy about them except their performance.

I'd throw some tape on her & start a light routine from the 8K & up, then shave test her.

Re: Absolutely mint 11/16 Shumate Barber
After stropping it actually feels a good bit sharper and is cutting some hairs above skin. I'll give it a test shave in a couple of hours and see if I need to do a little work on it.
I've got a really fine Shumate barber hone that I bought from Glen some months ago. If it's not up to par after just stropping, I'll give it some laps on that. Seems fitting. When the Dude is recognized in the world, unDudeness will be seen everywhere--- the Dude de Ching

What a great find! I would go with a touch up higher than 8k, maybe just a barbers hone, then strop and shave.
