woodcraft part #3 completion !!
well it is done ... has some blemishes but is more then good enough for my taste !! has one little spot in the CA Glue finish that i have to go back in and touch up but that will be for another day .... used 2 washers for stack in the double pins , and a 3 washer stack in the pivot pin , bleached the antler spacer then coated it in poly after it dried , thought about putting a metal liner around the spacer but i think ill save that for next time ,all thats left now is to do some touch up on the 8k or 12k , strop ,oil the blade and place it next to its other Greaves friends until we meet again around the sink !! (cell pics , ive been lazy with the camera lately )

Thanked: 25Just out of newbie curiosity, why is CA glue used instead of some sort of a polyurethane finish? Does the glue hold up better than poly or what?

Thanked: 1184Okay , I am not so sure on my thought here but it seems it is going to be a lot thinner in as many coats and sanding as it takes to get that type of finish. I am also betting it won't flake or peel as quickly. Remember this is just a guess and will wait to stand corrected.
LOL and I got a case to try it and see someday soon.
Oh ,, and that came out nice gooser . Glad to here your hands are free this time. I might try mine this weekend. If I get a day off that is.Last edited by 10Pups; 03-09-2013 at 04:54 AM.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

honestly i couldnt tell you if it is any better or not , i never looked into it as far as the benefits i know i should have but i heard about it on here and gave it a try ...
but as far as results go !! ive done a couple in polyurethane and 2 in CA glue ... i think the CA glue looks more natural of a finish between the 2 and personally i like the look and feel better ...
on a side note i bet if i sanded down the poly finish with fine sandpaper and cut it like the direction for the CA coat read the results may be the same idk though ? i just more or less used it cause i never have and wanted to try it ...lol

CA finish is out of the question for me, cat hair flying around everywhere, unless "furry" is the finish I want.

Thanked: 4826As a woodworker I must say that the concept of the CA finish is great, because of the penetration, durability and the fact that you can get such a great polish to the finish. Nice looking project.
