Thanked: 1My straight now has a home.
I was new to the art before I met Obie, and he set me straight.
A young man needs mentors.
Below documents how far I've come.

The above link shows just my razor, a Paul Steinmetz.
Today I rescued an old wooden box. Although I still intend on getting a stand for my razor I've been wanting to get a box to store my supplies in and/or use as a display case for my razor. I wanted to find an old one. As I'm going on in life I'm finding that old, often means well-built. This box is a perfect example of the aforementioned. Without further delay, here it is.
It's solid, it has character, and to me it's perfect.
Here is "my set". It didn't cost me thousands, or even hundreds of dollars. It's just the basics. The brush won't be in this box when it's drying--this picture is just to show what I started off my journey into the straight razor shaving world with.
1. Arlington Shaving Bowl (a subtle, low key scent)
2. Styptic pencil
3. VapoRub (I dab it on the bottom of my nose and breath it in during the shave--it works wonders).
4. Paul Steinmetz full hollow
5. Comb (just because!)
6. Brush
7. Nail Clippers
8. (Not shown) Martin, Sinatra, and The Smiths being queued up in the background before a shave.
This is all I need for now. Someday I may have an impressive shave den like Obie's, but I must earn that with time and experience first.

Thanked: 5As far as I know, it is really bad idea to keep the styptic pencil or alum block somewhere bear the SR.
It can affect the blade with corrosion.
I use the wooden box for razors only

Thanked: 1Thanks for mentioning that. I had a box for the styptic pencil but it fell apart. It seems out of place just rolling around like it is so I'll have a container anyways to put it in soon. I might as well just hide the pencil somewhere because I won't need it

Nice set, man...
Just out of curiosity, what are you doing for a strop? Seems to me you could have a small paddle strop fit as well, and then you really would have a complete kit..."Willpower and Dedication are good words," Roland remarked, "There's a bad one, though, that means the same thing. That one is Obsession." -Roland Deschain of Gilead
