Thanked: 1936You will find that our saying "less is more" is so true with the GS's. Keep the edges chamfered & enjoy, I've been using them for quite some time...soon you will see why. A "sweet 16" and a "green brick" is all you will ever "need" with your new babies. If I can ever help you, don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanked: 1936The Zulu Grey will serve you just fine for your finishing...until the HAD kicks in. I prefer a natural as my finisher each and every time. I have fine tuned my honing to: Chosera 1K, Shapton GS 2,4,8,16 & then a natural finisher of my choice, one of which is a Zulu Grey. I have tried many options & combinations, but this one works best for me. I would recommend that you build a good honing foundation on the 1,4, & 8K first. Once you are getting good shaves every time, then throw in the Zulu Grey...you will be pleased with the edges...and yourself.
There are quite a few Aussie's here on the forum, you might check to see if any veteran honers are within driving distance to you. It sure would help you out on your quest for the "perfect edge".Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thats within my driving distance, only take me two days to get there!!
Thanks for the advice! I seem to have been doing ok with doing one stone honing. I wanted the 4/8 to help speed up that gap between the bevel setting and finishing and also to help improve the edge as there is definately plenty of room for improvement.
I definately plan on sticking to the shaptons without the finishers until I'm happy I have learnt to get good consistent results from them, itll be hard to nkt throw in the all powerful naturals at the end though, I dont want them to feel neglected haha.

Nice Shaps Nick. You'll like those.

Thanked: 1936Sorry, don't know the geography down there...I was hoping you could find some guys within a couple of hours drive.
The company that bought us out has several railroads down there...would be cool to try out a new country!Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.

No need to apologise, its easy enough to do, I myself am very geogrphically challenged haha.
Its ok, if I run into trouble, there are plenty of helpful people on here with a wealth of knowledge like your self that I can get advice. I'm pretty sure that Carl is just down the road a ways from me as well so I could always hit him up.
Nick.
