I had one growing up, and spent many hours in the woods making forts south it before we graduated up to a double bit axe. Good memories.
DANG! Beat me to it! I was gonna say "Shingler's Hatchet". There more modern ones out there for shingling, but they look the same as this one.

Cool. Thank you guys. I figured that the back was for hammering, as the blade is a bit too thin for a splitting axe, and if it was meant to be hit with a sledge, it'd probably be thicker.

It's not that I need this axe, per se, as I am not in the roofing business, but there is always room for one more interesting looking axe

So how did you get everything home? Did you have trailer for your bike? I doubt the little wire basket on the handlebars could hold up to that anvil....

Ah no. When I first lifted that vise I knew straightaway that 50+ pounds of cast iron in my backpack would not be a great idea.
So I gave the guy 5 euros for putting the axe and vise aside for me, and at the end of the day I drove back with the car to pick them up.
Btw my mother told me that those ironing irons were 19th century. They're not actually worth anything of course, because there must be tens of thousands of those things still floating around at flea markets etc.
