I think it's a valid request - searching for 'tape' in the google search bar yields 100 results and they are sorted by google's algorithm of what is most relevant.
The dumb forum search results in 293 threads containing the word tape (sorted by title alphabetically, number of replies, number of views, first post, last post, username alphabetically, or forum - pretty rudimentary in relation to information).
I don't think it is unreasonable to have a different filtering based on the knowledge of the experienced members - say 5-10 threads. The question, of course, is who are those experienced members who would provide that knowledge and while there are many more the mentors seem like the simplest set that's already existing (and anybody else could still contribute suggestions by going through a mentor). The infrastructure for it already exists, even though it's not used properly.

Agreed - also include a clear pointer to the search and advanced search functions on SRP.
And finally, make sure this link is included:

This issue comes up on gaming forums a lot. The old salts get tired of new members asking the same questions and having same discussions on stuff that has already been covered to the salt's satisfaction.
You have to admit that after reading tons of threads on something folks will still like to talk about it and that's what forums are for. Popular topics should have their own sub-forum if they clutter. It could go in the Advance sub-forum.
But, hey I have just a quick question about...

You either tape all the way through your honing progression or you don't use it at all. Problem averted.

Thanked: 270I quit taping. When I get confused about an issue like honing to the point I stop doing it, I simplify things.

Thanked: 1184On a straight answer type mindset I would say all questions are welcome. I don't see many go unanswered. It's a great way for someone to focus on their problem at any specific level of their path to learning. I go into the library to look something up and I may reread 10 other things. Maybe forgetting what I came for. Kind of like a dog sniffing around and wind up ten miles from home :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
