Image Size
Is there an optimum image size to set your point and shoot camera for SOTD pics?

Thanked: 4826I too have a similar question. Part of why I don't post much for images is because it always takes so long to resize repeatedly try to figure out what the maximum file size to post is. If I knew the answer it would be easiest to set my camera there and forget it, so it is an excellent question to which I am interested in too. I am not much of a tech kind of guy.

I use a free post processor that is simple
Photoscape:
PhotoScape
I then use a picture size of 700 pixels horizontal. Give a nice fit to any of the fora.
If you use the photo uploader here, just click on large. It does everything else.Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

Thanked: 3225I use photobucket and resize the image to 800 pixels wide on the longest side. What ever jpg setting on your camera that is near that, give or take, should do it.

They'll get downsized by the forum software to I believe 700px on the longest dimension. I've chosen it because it works fairly well with the forum layout on most people's screens.
Of course, some people want to put larger pictures by hosting them somewhere else, but I think that they're shooting themselves in the foot because then it messes up the forum layout and overall looks much worse.

Add to that ..... if the photo host pix are deleted they show up on our site as a "image not available" or some such thing. That really looks terrible, and I sometimes delete posts that are that way ...... cause I can.
If it can't be uploaded from each member's hard drive I would like to see photos blocked. YMMV.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I think the issue is that not checking it off (or simply using the img tag manually) is an option. Old threads are full of missing external images, and the current threads who keep the images somewhere else will be the same in a couple of years.
The only solution I can see is to disable it completely so anybody who wants to include images in their posts will have to upload them to SRP.
