Hmmm problem seems to be my account. Test account works fine.

I'd create another user account on the mac and see if both accounts on srp behave differently there.
What about other browsers, is it the same difference on chrome and firefox?

Yes the test account worked ok so it's gotta be my current one at fault ? I didn't try firefox but will.

I thought you tested a different account on srp, not on your computer. Then it sounds like computer restart deletes the authentication cookie. I don't follow things very closely anymore, but I think the cookies are managed differently nowadays from several years back. They used to be written to text files, but now are stored in the browser memory.
One possibility would be that crashing the browser on shutdown/restart instead of quitting it wouldn't go through the process of save that information to the disk. It's just a speculation on my part though, I haven't switched to 10.10 and restart the computer roughly once a month, but haven't observed the behavior you're seeing.

Oh I never thought of trying a new SRP acc.
Cookies remain unless deleted manually, it seems but I think the issue lies somewhere around the passwords tab in Safari & Keychain Access... maybe ?

Firefox had its owm wierdness so I'm not really sure. It didn't even keep me logged in after quitting so maybe yeah cookies issue as I believe it deletes stuff on closing .

Anyhoo just went thru a few hours of creating new accounts & trying to restore iTunes libraries etc & am over it.

Have restored via Time Machine to last month's state & all is working as it should. I will run whatever updates are needed & see if anything breaks akong the way.

    Thanks all for the suggestions.

I don't know if it pertinent but on my android phone I used to have to press "remember me" prior to finishing entering my details if I pressed it just prior to pressing the "login" button it didn't always work.

    Sounds like buggy software Ed.
Still had me logged in today after a shutdown last night so it's all good.
