In a very small way it is unfair for those of us who had to play by the old rules but I don't have a problem with that, you need change every now and then to keep up with the times. On the other hand as long as the mods closely monitor the new members activities to make sure they aren't dumping crap onto the site and ban those that do then the change should benefit us all.

You still need to be a member here to post ads, and need a bare minimum of posts.
The classifieds at this moment is a very dormant, very low traffic compared to the old BST forum. There were many hoops to jump through, making it impossible for many members to sell things. Under the old rules, it was not allowed for beginning restorers to move restored razors in the classifieds. And you needed x posts over y months.

We may experience growing pains, that is true. But the alternative was simply keep the classifieds from growing and becoming fun again. That's kinda like smothering a baby with a pillow to avoid the 'terrible twos'. Issues may crop up, and we will have to deal with them. And if things really derail, we can change our opinion again. This is not politics after all

The alternative to opening our classifieds is to simply continue pushing all those people to ebay and tell newbies to fend for themselves so that we don't have to deal with the issues that come from having a more active classifieds. Because that is the situation we are currently having.

I agree with Bruno in much of this. Our classifieds used to have greater traffic and its of deals. As for the old rules of number of posts, all you had to do was regularly submit SOTD pictures and you were golden. There have been members here in the past and that is all they did SOTD, so it was to the letter of the rules but not the spirit. I think the old rules had intended to encourage people to contribute and be active on the forum. Apparently it was too much to ask. I think change is good and if the changes turn out to be too much, that can be adjusted too. I have been active on the forum and both as a buyer and a seller on the classifieds.

My opinion, but if that's too much to ask are those guys going to be what has become a pretty good place, look what happens every time one of the crap disturber so shows up,, I,m ready to give it a chance, but now how can we tell a new guy to go to the classifieds like we have been doing? We won't even know them if they don't participate. Just my concern. Tc

As long as the stuff being sold has an accurate description I don't see a problem with this.
I realize the new guys are most at risk here because they aren't as familiar with the gear as the old but surely 20 posts more or less isn't going to make them a genius either.
We all know who sells the good stuff and that wont stop anytime soon, maybe a better rating system can be put in place so the newbies can identify more of a sure thing rather than taking risks with unknown sellers. The old guys however wont have a problem and might just pull the trigger on good restore opportunities as they fix and hone their own stuff. More stuff can be more fun. Worth a try what can happen? You can always change the rules back if its a disaster but i don't think it will be.

You still need to post accurate descriptions and pics, and you cannot sell junk.
What more rules do you need?

On top of those, adding more rules is not about the quality of the ads but being more picky about who we think should be allowed to sell and who shouldn't. That doesn't add more value to the site. And with the rules as they were, the classifieds was just dying a slow death.
