I fit in here by just flying under the radar...

Few will agree with me on politics or firearms, so I steer clear. Let the zealots battle it out!

BTW, I'm surprised to see this thread still alive, and I'm sorry to see FAL gone. All this talk about him being "mentally ill" is wrong, IMO, and a smokescreen. We've all got glitches in our wiring somewhere, and good for him that he's accepting and unashamed of it. The poor folks that have a real mental illness think they're fine, so I think FAL is OK in that regard.

Freud was not a relative, so it's just my take on things...

Second point... All this talk about gentleman in high collars is just that .. talk. We all suffer the same human foibles as the folks on other forums ... no better ... no worse! That does NOT means we should not be civil to one another, even those we dislike. Personal attacks are pointless, as no one is going to change the mind of anyone else on the computer... Personally, I just avoid the blowhards ... it keeps my blood pressure in check!

I learned very quickly that the use of foul language in most situations isn't always prudent. I was home on leave from the Marine Corps and let slip a couple of words in front of my Mom and she turned and slapped my face and reminded me that that kind of talk was not appropriate. As this supposed tough Marine my Mom put me back in place rather quickly. Since then I try to watch what I say.

    I like this post!

We could all use a slap in the face from Mom once in a while... Even if she's not here anymore!

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've sworn in front of my mum and I left home at 17 to join the Army. Sometimes you just have to respect the person your talking to.

    Good thread!
Even though the count of my marbles is open to question, I do not believe that mental illness is a way to avoid responsibility. In fact, it requires a strong firm response to strays from normal? behavior and situations.

Y'know AFAIC it about 'decorum.' From Webster's dictionary ; " correct or proper behavior that shows respect and good manners. "

There is a time and a place for things. Most all of us probably knew the words by the time we were 10. Many of us, including me, used them frequently. Growing up in the USA when you didn't hear that sort of language in films or television, there was an unwritten given that you didn't use that kind of language in 'mixed company.' IOW men didn't talk like that in front of women or children, and if you did someone just might put one upside your head.

Of course now no movie is complete without plenty of cussing from both sexes, and the ladies are as foul mouthed as the men, if not worse. It is said you can judge a civilization by its art. I liked the old world better. Here at SRP the policy is written that the members participate with 'decorum.' Those who don't find that policy agreeable can go over to other forums where wallowing in the mud is acceptable. They will be happier and so will we.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
