Thanked: 562As a relative newbie I would like to offer that I have experienced nothing but good humour, generously offered support and great advice from the members of SRP who have vastly more experience than I.
I havre found no other source of information on wet shaving in general and anything specifically associated with straight razors that offers anything close to the depth and volume of what can be found here either in the archives of previous posts or the collective memory and experience of the mentors and long serving senior members.
The discussions that occur when differing perspectives on a topic are voiced are important and engaging and, from my perspective, have always been measured and gentlemanly and sprinkled with levity. They have been fun to read.
I feel fortunate to have found SRP and point anyone I meet who has an interest in wet shaving to it.David

Thanked: 104No need for me to chime in on this, but I wanted to say that my experience here has been stellar. I have learned may things from many guys. Some slightly divergent views than my own, but always respectful, if a bit pointed. I have also received very generous offers of help from people that are virtual strangers. I do not, nor have I ever felt bullied or abused. The mods here have been very professional and the members have been absolute joys in 9/10 of the discussions that I have entered.

Thanked: 3795I too have held back from this thread but I'd like to make something clear. This forum consists of individuals. We don't always agree. It would be boring if we did. Differing opinions are welcome here and it is fine when one member disagrees with another. What isn't fine is when those disagreements lose basic civility.
You can disagree with me. You can tell me I'm wrong. Ideally you would explain how or why I am wrong. What you should not do in a moderated forum like this one is to insult me or make personal attacks. If you do, I will try not to respond in kind, but I have a temper. So do a lot of us and sometimes problems arise here because of that.
Again, we don't always have to agree, but when we disagree we need to be civil about it.
Now, what about this supposed "trend?" In my opinion the trigger for this current discussion was HERE.
Now was that civil? Nope.
I pointed out what I thought was wrong in the thread and then I chose to disengage. It takes two (or more) people to have an argument and I saw no point in it. I decided to make an addition to my "ignore list," only the 4th time I have done this. Clearly others chose to do the same. Was this a trend? Maybe, but that likely was because others were annoyed by what was said in that thread too.
Oh well. This is a forum. Not everyone has to engage with everyone in it. That's not a trend. That's the way it's always been. We just have to be civil with each other and when we are not, that is why we have moderators to police the place. Let's all keep trying to make their "job" easier.
