i can only assume that yahoo clubs went online back in 1998, https://web.archive.org/web/19981212...ubs.yahoo.com/ and also wetshavers, https://web.archive.org/web/20050407...com/WetShavers which i dont know the exact year that original shaving forum went up and running? maybe 1997? so then what you guys are telling me is that for 1999/2000 these were THE only shaving forums online? there was no one else? wow thats crazy if im assuming correct! if i had gone to either website back in 1999/2000, would i have been able to get the good quality shave advice/tips like from any of the now modern shave forums like these, https://sharprazorpalace.com/general...g-forums.html? if i had gone online like 20/21 years ago, would i have been able to find out about proraso or any other traditional de razor shave prep? assuming that yahoo clubs and msn wetshavers were around and it was 99/00, would not only me but others who seek shaving tips/advice been able to know what shave info is available from badgerandblade, atg, the shaveden, ect...? how did yahoo clubs and msn wetshavers differ from the now modern shave forums available today assuming that shaving tips/advice from todays shaving forums is almost excellent in quality? would anyone care to speculate here........? lets assume we could go back to 1995 and thats when msn wetshavers went online for the first time, would the shaving tips/advice given there be of the same quality as todays current shaving forums or not in any of your opinions guys? i love to get other peoples opinion! rsvp.

Search box right up there. Lots of info about the plethora of shaving forums, etc and speculation thereof on most any existing forum.
You could join them all? Just troll everyone?

For hundreds of years, folks across the world shaved off natural stones, slates, arks, Jnats and local stones. Usually a low grit and a high grit, and finishing on .50um natural paste, (Chrome Oxide and Ferrous Oxide).

Today, folks are still finishing on Slates, Arks and Jnats, the same stones are more expensive, but the same stone, the exact same stones in some cases, and same paste.

So, while a lot has changed, a lot is still the same, technique trumps magic stones. It is easier to find information now and even easier to find bad information. The mania of complete, frequent bevel setting, and stone progression is a modern phobia, probably directly related to the growth of web fora.

Get some stones, and learn to hone, find a good finisher, then learn your finisher. Your shaves will tell you if you are headed in the right direction.

35 years ago, I learned to hone and finish on a translucent Ark, today I still finish on an Ark or Jnat. I have bought or tried most of the stones available.

Back in the day the standard advice was finish on an 8k and paste with Chrome Oxide for comfort, it is still good advice today.

I think as the Internet has evolved the amount of good and poor information has gone up a lot. I think if you are looking for the oldest source of information it would be the public library, it predated the Internet by a lot.

What usually happens is guys give their opinion on what works for them. I don't know that anyone has tried everything. This "oldest" thing is kind of irrelevant if you ask me. Straight shaving is relatively easy and you learn most by doing it. After all before 1904 it was the only way.

Also, things change and good advice then might be bad advice now. Forget about the past and concern yourself with the present.

Maybe someone here can tell me I should have taken a different major in college and my life would have been way better? Maybe I should have gone on that blind date with that gal in 1968?

Back in those days even if you learned about great products there was practically no way to get them unless you lived in a major city like NYC or Chicago. Online sources didn't appear until probably after 2000.
