firefox slowdown
Since the latest changes to the site over the last month my Firefox slows to a crawl when I am signed in (90% to 100% cpu usage). When I sign out, Firefox no longer has slowdown. There is also no elevated cpu usage while editing a new post (this one). During normal browsing it is elevated.
I have Firefox/2.0.0.13.

It's extremely weird, but unmistakably only when I am signed in. Why it doesn't happen when editing/making a post is also strange.

Firefox is notoriously prone to memory leaks (google for information) which may be attributing to your problem. You may check that certain settings, i.e. javascript, flash, and any extensions are not causing the problem (find out by turning them on or off). If this doesn't solve the issue, you may need a clean install of FF. This is easy to do, but if you need a hand, PM me for help.

I'm also using Firefox and have noted no slowdowns here. IE crashed on me and a system restore didn't fix it, so I'm backing things up and going to do a full format.

I have not installed FF fresh for years (other than automatic updates) and it's open on my computer for most of the day... I've never noticed any memory leak issues or a "slowdown" when logged-on to SRP and I never have to close/reopen it. I'm also running 2.0.0.13.
So, what's different between your setup and mine... things that immediately come to mind are what OS are you running, what add-ons do you have installed/enabled in FF, what add-on tool bars do you have active, what are you displaying that originates from SRP (eg, flashchat, who's online, chatbox, casino, etc.) and how many tabs do you have open. You might try turning off any addons and toolbars to see if any of them are the cause. Have you changed any of your security settings recently that might be related to the problem?
For all practical purposes, no changes have been made to the forum configuration for many months except those enabled over the past week or so. We did change servers in mid-march, and while that has in fact made things faster, the forum configuration is actually identical to that on the old server.
Without additional info I'm at a loss to suggest anything else.Last edited by azjoe; 04-02-2008 at 10:05 PM.

Thanks for the replies.
It's probably one of my recently updated extensions (the only changes that I'm aware of in over a month). I'll try disabling them incrementally.

Sticky do you have the Down them all extention for FireFox? If so it just had a update to 1.0 I think it was and it has been causing problems. It rewrites your FF config wrong in a couple of spots. The problem can be fixed though....

I just had a strange experience with firefox. I downloaded the FF 3 beta and it took about 3 minutes+ to load when I first clicked on it. I then switched back to 2.0.0.13 and had the same problem. I then uninstalled all of it..reinstalled and had the same problem
I was due for a windows reinstall anyway and that fixed everything as usual. Firefox still seems quite the memory hog, but I don't like to surf with IE and Opera wants to go crazy with any torrents I try and download.

You should check into a program called Acronis. It's like Norton Ghost, but better in my opinion. I did a fresh XP re-install with programs (about 10 gigs) in 15 minutes.
I'm on Firefox and haven't noticed any issues. The only time the forum acts weird is with Safari, but that's because it's safari
