I had the idea Sydneykidney was after a method to add more weight to an individual post in a thread. The installment of the reputation button may lend a member more credibility, but it says noting about a particular post.
You can't see if someone received extra "reputation" on a certain post, can you? (just wondering)

Perhaps, reputation can be disabled in certain places.... the conversation area springs readily to mind... and then again the thank you button in there is pretty useless as well ... rep and thank yous should maybe be reserved for razor related areas

With the uh, er, quality of individuals we have here, I dont think very many of us is going to give a hoot what someone else thinks of us as individuals, especially in the Conversation. Or is it just me?

I think that it means that you did add to the person's reputation but that you cannot do so again, for this person, until you have added to the reputation of others first.
Anyway, that was my interpretation.
