Thanked: 1903I beg to differ. If I gave a product a 5, based on its scent, but its average rating would actually be 8, what good is the overall rating? I quite like the finely granulated rating we have now. Mind you, we might also use 1-5

Thanked: 328Well, let me begin my saying I'm SHOCKED that you would disagree with me ..
I don't like the 1-5 rating as it drops the rating by 20% at each increment. Thats' why I picked the 1-10 in .5 increments.. Much lower percentage drop overall, but still easy to manage.

Hello,
I noticed something on the blog review. For JimR's blog entry "Vending for Fun and....Well, Just Fun." located at http://straightrazorpalace.com/membe...-just-fun.html, I noticed he had two five star reviews. However, on the recent entries preview page (currently at Straight Razor Place Forum - Blog Entries - Blogs) it shows two stars for his review.
I'm not sure if it's a coincidence that he has two review ratings or not, or even if I'm totally misunderstanding the system. I just thought if this anomaly exists as I describe it, someone would want to know.

If I understand it correctly, it'll work like a poll, right? So the more people that comment on the review and put up their rating, the more the numbers will even out and correct the imbalance that Robin is worried about.
I've seen on a board game forum where they rate games by the compiled overall score. In order to even show up on a top 10 list, the game has to have at least 50 total reviews AND have a top score, so one person doing a review and giving it a perfect score won't make it show up on a list. With that system (and we have the beginnings of it here) you can eventually do a search for the "best soap" and see the top ranked soaps. Maybe even put a "sandalwood" filter on it to see what the group consensus is on those. Yes, it'll take a while to build up the ratings pool, but it is an invaluable tool once it's up and running.
I give the new system a
