Thanked: 328Charging NEW members for classifieds
Please read the word NEW a few times.. Ok?
We're thinking about charging members with less then 100 posts a few dollars to post a classified ad.. Everyone else it'll stay the same for, and always free to purchase.
The reasoning behind this is we don't want someone from ebay coming here and trying to dump a bunch of junk on someone starting out. I don't ever want to see GREAT VINTAGE RAZOR FOR YOUR COLLECTION on something that's half eaten with rust.
We view this as a way to let everyone participate, but potentially mitigate the trashing of the classifieds. While we don't parse everything that gets posted, we do want to always keep this as a safe haven for those starting out with the fine ritual of straight razor shaving.
Speaking thereof, I think I hear a jar of Castle Forbes and a Bismarck calling..
I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Who moderates the classifieds ? If something doesn't look "right" that is put up for sale is there a specific individual to be notified ? What I am getting at is that SRP is somewhat self policing. If a 'senior' member sees junk posted for sale he might pull a mods coat and get the item pulled if the mod agrees.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 328Hopefully everyone is better then that ..
And while that's a concern, I don't think it would be that big of an issue.. And our wonderful team of moderators could fix it very quickly

Thanked: 328Mods moderate the classifeds too.. If they see something funky, they can pull it.. Right now we ask that a member at least have one post on SRP before posting in the classifieds. But that's kind of a silly ineffectual rule.. We need something better, thus the idea that we're discussing now..
While I don't think it'll catch 100% of everything. I think it'll help.. And the revenue generated can go to offset server growth and software purchases.. It's gonna be time to upgrade to a full server soon. The damn site just keeps growing!

If we had left the classifieds like it used to be....
Ok, Ok. I know. I'll shut up now.
