+1 for just about everything I have read on this thread. The only thing I can add is my personal experience. When I started Str8 shaving I was looking to cut cost of disposable + can garbage. My job cut us down to 32 hours a week (yes I liked the idea of using vintage type tools for shaving but that was just a plus).

When I stumbled on this site I was instantly welcomed and encouraged. I think I would have given up if it were not for SRP and the people here. I got good advice, resources, and a good deal on my first razor not to mention constant support from the seller on its use. When I misused the razor (bad stropping, bad habits, etc.) he re-honed it along with some friendly chastising about what I was doing wrong. He got me back on track along with lots of other encouraging feedback.

And when I was at my lowest point financially last year a member took another razor and restored it pro-bono! You don't find guys like that anywhere else. I have seen several newbies who expressed money problems being offered free assistance. But it's not about getting something for free its about a group of people who are passionate and caring enough to offer to help.

Finally, (though there is more if I think about it) there is an attitude that celebrates uniqueness/individuality. There are guys here who talk about high dollar supplies, razors, strops I will never even see much less use. Then there are guys who say, (I don't remember who) "I'm experimenting with minimalism..." like stropping with folded newspaper. And the awesome thing about both is that I don't feel put-down because I identify more with newspaper guy then damascus steel guy. And both would take the time to talk with me here. Nobody cares if you just scratch the surface of str8 shaving or go all the way into restoring and making your own supplies. I alway feel, no matter how far I go, that I will be encouraged, advised (sometimes chastised) and assisted every step of the way with little or no intimidating attitudes or comments.

Anyway...that's what keeps me coming back!

    cause we're one big family

and like any family we have our moments of laughter, disagreements, conversations, wisdom, quarrels,..

but even more important. we all share the same passion.
