Those two used to be the subject of perpetual ribbing between me and my wife. She loved Irfanview, and I couldn't get her to switch to GIMP for editing. (Granted, we were using them for slightly different purposes.)

(un?)Fortunately, her hard drive (w/Windows) finally gave up the ghost, so now I've got her using a a persistent Ubuntu install on an 8GB USB drive. With GIMP.

All that aside, Irfanview *is* pretty good for simple editing.
