In all seriousness, we could just take suggestions on name for a new rank for a week or so, and then have a vote with options like
a)
b)
c) keep honemeister
d) cowboyneal
and call it a day.

Ok here's an idea for new ranking nomenclature (because that's all it really is).
0 to 10 posts - "mute"
10 to 100 posts - "n00b"
100 to 500 posts - "member"
500 to 1000 posts - "motormouth"
1000+ posts - "I need a mouth cork".
That way no one gets confused and it holds to the true nature of most megaposters abilities . (just having fun )
I don't know how this particular bulletin board software works but I know other boards I frequent have the ability to assign SPECIAL tags and that the moderators have this power/privilege. Non moderators who are good at honing AND are ok with being identified with such AND have been verified by Lynn or other recognized veterans as being a decent honer can apply for the special tag if and when they so choose.
I'd like to apply for the "I'm too sexy" tag please. I think my ego will verify I'm hot stuff .Last edited by Flanny; 12-12-2006 at 10:21 PM.

... or other [threads]...

I thought it would be a good idea to note changes made as I make them... this will cover changes made on both the main site and the forum. I'll sticky this for now so you can quickly refer to it if needed.- added a red style to the Forum. This style includes the new-look forum header in preparation for other changes that will be made Monday. 9-dec@9:17pm
- added new-look headers to the steel green, steel blue, and smart brown styles. Thanks to Nenad (aka superfly) for these! 9-dec@9:45pm
- disabled member "Ranks" on the Forum... so, no more "honemeister"! 9-dec@9:50pm
- for registered members, I turned on the Forum's ability to allow you to create your own "Title" in your usercp... so, for those that don't like 'member', 'sr. member', etc., change em! Note: Moderators, Admins, etc are unchanged. 9-dec@9:52pm

Thanked: 79Hmmm.
I think the only TRUE way someone gets labeled a "honemeister" is by word of mouth or praise from other members. Originally before this site was set up, and all we had was the Yahoo group, I think Lynn was the original, and to be honest, I'm not sure who called him that first. When this site was started it seemed (to me at least) to all be in good fun, and based completely on posts. Not sure if that confused anyone or not.
I think there are people on here whose skills could easily classify them as honemeisters but who seldom part with a razor or do not exactly offer their services to anyone. I know there are people I've traded with who have provided razors ready to shave in every sense of the word, but such people no doubt will never call THEMSELVES honemeisters or even seek the title. Realistically, I think there are those who are happy with their own hone work, and those who are not. Someone with a ridiculous amount of high end hones may have a certain advantage over Joe Newbie, who perhaps has a worn out barberhone, but skill and experience no doubt come into play.
I almost think a way to share feedback on each other's work would be far better than some artificial "title" which may give a new person false hope. After all, even the established "honemeisters" have a bad day from time to time, or a razor that doesn't cooperate as well as it should, and sometimes, what shaves well for one, will not for another. I've had to redo "honemeister" edges once or twice, not because they were not sharp, but because my face did not like the feel of the edge (fwiw I never could use a Schick cartridge razor, but Gillettes worked fine...same thing).
By the way, I haven't posted much here in awhile, the site looks great; also is everyone still buying the Radio Shack microscopes to watch edge progression? That was probably the single most helpful step I did when starting out besides having a shave ready blade to compare to also.
Sorry for the rant folks.
I think word of mouth is plenty; we don't want to stop the flow of info by banishing the "honemeisters" to their own little corner....
