Default Mystic Water Shaving Soap - Review by a Noob

I just purchased my first artisan manufactured shaving soap from Mystic Water in the Irish Traveler scent. This was my first use at any soap since purchasing my first puck of William's.

Both my wife and I found the scent very pleasing. It doesn't last long after the shave, but I did not expect it to. Even if it had, it would have been covered up by the Old Spice aftershave.

It is reasonably priced given it is handcrafted - especially when I compared it to a few of the more popular "gourmet" options that are available.

The lather was easy to create and it gave me a nice, smooth shave and left my face well moisturized. I never really had many complaints with William's, other than the lather dried quickly. I did not experience that with the Mystic Water product.

I'm certainly no expert, but I LOVE this product. I've been using old fashioned lye soaps for years and prefer them to commercially available soap. I will probably buy some of their bath bars now, too.

I would give this 4 out of 5 stars.

    Thanks for the review.

Most soaps do not leave any lasting scent. As a matter of fact I can think of only one, Xpec though I'm sure there are others.

I love their Irish Traveler shave soap. I got that one as a sample but I was ordered to get the Orange Cream one as my summer soap. It's nice but I prefer a little more soapy scent, personally. The Lily of the Valley is great too and the Maestrale was a great pick by my wife. I want them all though. Michelle makes a really great product and she has fantastic customer service.

Today first time with MWS Bay Rum.
Fragrance is very sweet, but complex in a harmonic way.
Bentonite and Silk work great to the gliding of blade.
Maybe this soap doesn't like hard water ... but this is just first date!!
BTW a very good shave, with AS not necessary ... more an habit or exercise in style.

Just one thing I don't like ... the tub. Really too big for the puck, which goes all around as a snake!!

Over the past two days I have continued the search for the perfect foam with MWS.
    Today I've nearly succeeded.
I had to charge brush much more than the usual, and I added a little more water.
I finally got a quantity of foam useful for all passes of the complete sunday shave.
Texture, especially the last pass of the four, was not as compact as I would like.
But with the help of Brush Scuttle DIY (http://straightrazorpalace.com/misce...ml#post1261699), the excellent qualities of the soap has been further enhanced.
    A real pleasure.

    I've reached to perfect foam.
The problem is that this soap doesn't like hard water.
To achieve this purpose, i have tried everything.
Go to the mount in BL, use soft water, mitigate the temperature of the water.
In short, it is a tough business.

The quality is excellent, but the formulation is too low-flexible for my standard.
When I want to dedicate so much time to this soap, I will take back from behind where it is now.

I have heard that some people have trouble getting a good foam with this soap. I've personally never had a problem. I have two pucks. One is in a small teak bowl and the other is in a large cup. All I've ever done is soak my brush for a few minutes in cold to warm water, shake out about 1/2 the water in the brush, and start swirling it in the container. If it's not foaming well, I add more water. When I'm at my MD residence, I'm using good well water. When I'm in FL, I'm using hard city tap water. Works the same with both. I love their product.

I really enjoy my Mystic Water soap. It's in the Adirondack Jack scent, which is a great woodsy/pine blend. The post-shave skin care is second to none.

I haven't had a problem lathering it, but I tend to load all my soaps on the heavy side. I normally load for 60 seconds, then spend 2 minutes building the lather while adding a few drops of water every 30 seconds or so. DR Harris, Mike's, MWF, and Mystic Water have all performed well this way.

    Disclaimer-I have very hard water.

I was PIF’d a tub of Mystic Water Sardinian Honey to try. I have been putting off trying it. The honey scent out of the tub is very strong and I kept visualizing spreading honey all over my face. I did want to try Mystic Water soap though, so I pulled the trigger on it this morning. I guess I am another MW victim. The lather started out thick and rich but broke down on my face on each pass. I know I could spend time tweaking it, but I am not so inclined….especially with the overpowering honey scent. Just not my cup of chowder. I did get a very good shave though.

MW shave soaps didn't make the cut for me either, but the scents were very good.
