Good Morning Rich,
I'm not really thinking about the menthol in the scent arena, but more about the cooling effect it lends to the Aftershave. Personally I would want Alcohol to generate a little heat for the cold months, but alcohol is also drying to the skin.
All the posts I've read seem to indicate that men prefer Balms during the Winter months, so I think the current formulation will work quite well.......I was just curious as to the "cooling" factor.

I don't think that necessarily means that's what the majority wants... just what the majority of people who posted want. There may/may not be a difference... I guess I don't really know.
I think a balm is soothing if you have razor burn. Also, if you're prone to dry skin, a balm is useful.... but is the same true if you have normal or oily skin? I have normal skin and have never used a balm other than to sample it. I just Goggled and found a reference that 20% of the general population has dry skin... and that the older we get the more prone we are to having it.
I don't think it is necessarily a "winter thing", either... rather, it's whenever the humidity gets low. That might be in the winter in New England or the Spring/Fall in AZ, for example.
I'm neutral on menthol... it's not a selection criteria for me. If I had a choice between two identical products except one had menthol and the other not, I'd choose the one w/o. When I feel the need for a cool down, I splash cold water on my face.
Personally, I like alcohol for the astringent/burn feel... I realize there are astringents that don't burn, but I feel like there's something "missing" when I use them.
And I agree with Rich... a good AS scent can be used year round. Currently I rotate between three, depending on my mood and the people I'll be around. One I like, another most others prefer, and the 3rd one my wife particularly likes. They're all alcohol based and do not have menthol, moisturizers, etc. All three of them have been around for nearly 30 years, so they're apparently well liked by others even though they are somewhat expensive.
YMMV

Ok .....I can work with that.
The website is my own personal nightmare, I have never been in a situation like this in my life, where I am so busy that I cannot find time to write, so low and behold I found one college student to write and another to do labels.....
The price outta be pretty good and for the student working on the labels it is! He is working for whatever shaving supplies, soaps, creams, bath soaps....whatever he wants...it's his. And what's been nice so far, is that he hasn't asked for anything beyond what I sent to him.
The other person, well....after a few drafts to get the feel right for the wording.....her price is more than I can afford. Per product was $50.00 basing on an average of words used per paragraph....etc. etc. ( I should'a been a writer)
Which far outweighs the cost of another individual who is a member here at SRP, who also offered up his services. Very nice chap, also pricey....but after the students offer, he's looking better every day...lol. Of course the student wants me to reconsider and she'll lower her price, but in the meantime I have lots that still needs to be written.
SO....this is what I have decided to do. Because I am obsessed with doing everything all at once "just in case y'all ain't noticed".....I could hear this voice like DR. PHIL saying, "yeah......and hows that workin for ya ?" Obviously it isn't working.
I have many, many products....more than it seems that's for sure. Shaving soaps in two sizes, shaving creams in two sizes and bath soaps in two sizes. Not to mention all the other half finished products. I have over 70 products to choose from And worst of all.....I can hear my Husband saying, "you're doing to much, you're doing to much". OK.....so like maybe I'm doing to much..... but work is work, and there are bills to pay.
The only way I know how to get myself out of this mess is to put up one product a day or three a week or something. I keep trying to put it together all at once, and it just ain't workin; I've managed to paint myself into a corner that I don't know how to get out of.
AND.....while I don't say anything out there on the regular SRP threads. I seem to be having trouble at home too....of which I will spare you the gory details, but wow! This has been a really tough year for me..... LOL.....shoot, y'all gettin more'n ya bargained for today ain't cha
Hold'er back Paw, damn if that girl ain't on a roll today And just think, it's almost time for my Husband to come home...... "evil laugh"
Well....y'all are still my favorites!
And where is Randy Taylor?? it's been a month of Sundays since he chimed in.....oh.....and to be fair, where is Lynn ? where IS that Handsome CEO of SRP ?
OK.....shew! I feel better.....

And now for something completely diferent...
You know what they say, opinions are like a**holes, everybody's got one...and most of them stink. So here's my contrary take on things...
I do like balms, actually only one, T&H Classic. I use it occasionally during the winter; I like the feel and the scent...very classic barbershopy scent. When I really want the old time feel of a shave, it's TOBS Shave shop shave cream and T&H Classic Balm.
However, I'm not looking for a balm. The shea butter base in the AS is quite soothing on it's own and perfectly acceptable for year round use. Like Joe, I'd prefer a signature scent, classic, appropriate for use at any time.
With regard to the menthol, I like it (not the 'menthol' scent, but the cooling sensation of the menthol crystals added to a couple of the first round AS's). I'd describe the cooling from the menthol like a quick evaporation of alcohol...like what you'd experience with an alcohol based AS applied while standing in front of a fan. By the same tolken, I'm not a big fan of high alcohol content AS. It is certainly not due to the alcohol burn as I use an alum block following most shaves; maybe it is the drying of the skin, maybe it's the mental image of McCaully Culkin in 'Home Alone' applying his fathers AS each morning and letting out that hedious catterwahl.
Not suggesting changes or a different approach, just presenting personal preferences.
Colleen, know that you remain in my prayers.
Cheers,
Ed

Good Afternoon Gentlemen!
Yes...I am still here, alive and well. Thank you for allowing me the "girly rant" the other day...but I see that still wasn't enough to get Lynn to chime in Randy I hope your health is well, and you're just off on some adventure with a beautiful woman.
Ed I appreciate your comments. I think the base of the what we have so far is agreeable. And I hear the need for a classic year round scent. Something not to overbearing.....masculine....appropriate for all occassions. So if I manage to pull this off, do I get to out to dinner with Lynn .........??
The young man ( sworn to client confidentiality) who is helping me with the Labels has done whatever it is that you do to a design....lol.....sorry......to replace the logo from SRP to photocopy status. He also wanted to submit some designs of his own, just variations of the original. I certainly encourage artistic creativity and told him to go right ahead, with the understanding that I am not his audience....but rather Lynn.....
When his designs are finished he will submit them to me. I've already seen one round, they are quite good. I suggested some color changes.....partly thinking about labels for the Aftershave. It will be fun to see what he comes up with.
I wanted to let you know though...... So when the design's are finished they could be posted here for a vote. Does that sound alright?
Would you allow this young man access to this thread so you can discuss any changes you want done...?

Whatever he feels he needs to do to make the logo usable for a label should be fine. He has both a .jpg and a .bmp of the logo to work from. I see no problem with tweaking the logo in an artistic sense for use on a label so long as it's clearly recognizable as representative of our logo.
