Chocolate Mint....sounds yummy! I make a soap that is called Orange Mocha....if you're a woman, its to die for...but you're obviously not a womanWhich I'm sure makes your wife happy
It smells just like those dark chocolate oranges they come out with at Christmas time.
What's really cool is that I use REAL melted chocolate swirled into the soap....its definately one of those "spoil me" soaps.LMAO
I know the Menthol crystals have something to do with the cooling feeling, but I don't how much. What I'm going to figure out next is how they work separately from the peppermint essential oil. It is my hope that a few pinches of crystals will give a cooling feeling without interfering with the scent of the other oils. I should take a picture of the crystals and post it, they're interesting.
Web meeting delayed.......sigh.........now either Friday or Saturday. BIG MOVE tomorrow, finally....finally....we get to have our house back. I didn't realize I had collected so much stuff in my 4 years as a soapmaker.

I think it really relates to clothes & socks left on the floor. It seems we think there are hampers on the floor or so she says. As for the soap getting a 13 year old boy to shower is like getting pigs to fly. ... I can't wait till the hormones kick in he will start living in the shower...

I just caught up on todays posts. I'd say lets try scents 1 & 3 next, also. Which base are you going to use? This process is really cool. I wish I wasn't so busy so that I could enjoy it more. Oh well, better busy than bored. Sorry I'm not quite as elquent as Rich

Good Morning Gentlemen,
Various notes this morning.......First today is my moving day, so I won't be checking the computer for messages until this evening.
Second, it was brought to my attention that possibly some of you may not understand the difference between essential oils and fragrance oils....where there is one, there are always two
Before I started making soap 4 years I did not understand the difference either and thought it was a term used interchangeably.
The most noted difference to any human being on the planet is price. Essential oil are costly......and trade on the market the same as gold and silver. Fragrance oils are faaarrrrrr less expensive, and there are many different fragrance "houses".......and the quality varies.
Fragrance oils are man made......mimics of nature, sythetic wanna be's. This is not always a bad thing. A good fragrance house can create an almost perfect match, and in the case of Jasmine or Rose otto, the cost is far less.
There are different grades of fragrance oils.....you have your bottom shelf grades, along with your top shelf grades. Top shelf will always have trace amounts of essential oils.....and yes TGQ uses only Top Shelf
Essential oils are natural....or what I like to call REAL. Here's a good example......Does anyone remember "Tang" breakfast drink. An essential oil equivalent would be going outside in the back yard, picking a fresh orange at its prime (and has not been sprayed with insecticide) slicing it down the middle with the juice running everywhere, and then user an old timey hand juicer, twisting that orange around, getting out every last drop of juice and the pulp too.....ahhh, deep breathe.....I can just smell the tangy sweetness...
"Tang" on the other hand.....LOL.....well, who knows what's in there. It mimics orange juice...but it isn't REAL.
The other added benefit of essential oils are, they have known healing properties, not only to the skin....but for many health related problems (per "rose otto" up above ) and to our "senses". Essential oils can affect our sense of well being. Thus the word you hear often these days .....AromaTHERAPY. Essential oils have been uses for thousands of years and are mentioned frequently in the Bible, they are written in the heiroglyphs of ancient Egypt. They ARE the real mojo!
Most essential oils are steam distilled.....I think of it like a moonshine still. The plant material can range from roots, barks, plant stems, leaf, grasses, seeds, flowers, flower petals etc. The plant material is gathered by hand (for the most part) and is then distilled.
The water that is left over from this process is called a hydrosol. Pretty cool huh! Some of you may have noticed the use of this word in some of the skin care products you purchase.
A poor man's hydrosol is the same as making tea. The only thing I can't figure out is why their (big dog) Rose hydrosol is crystal clear, and mine (little dog) is dark pink.....obviously something in the process, but what....
OK......that's todays lesson on Essential oils (EO's) and Fragrance oils (FO)
For the next round.....PLEASE keep posting which scent # you want to try. I do now that some are busy right now, but just sometime between now and the first of next week.
For the base, we will use #1 and a hybrid of #4 and #5.....making adjustments for each where they were weak. See, this is thing about the tests......I know from your comments which base had a more astringent quality, which one felt better on your skin....which one burned....annnddd this is why your participation is so important.
I cannot do this without your help. (Remember me.....the gal who lives in WV surrounded by men in beards...like what was I thinking...LMAO, gonna make shaving soap...geez...chuckle. )
Its also important to note that not everyone is going to like these formulations. This is why there are 7 of you. In my mind of avgerages, if I get 5 out of 7 good marks....then its a winner, 4 out of 7......thats still very good, considering how different each man's skin can be. When we hit the 3 out 7 range....Noooo, that tells me I'm off the mark.
Right now we are at 4 out of 7. I think when I make the adjustments in the base it will move to 5 out of 7.... That's what I'm shootin for.
time to get to work.
