Default Best witch hazel products around

I know about Thayers and Dickinson's but who else makes good witch hazel toners or aftershaves?

Proraso aftershave has witch hazel in it. Sue's aftershaves also have witch hazel. I have some custom made aftershave coming from her that will help my dry skin. I had her make it up with the British Leather scent. I am really looking forward to getting it. Should get here tomorrow or Wednesday. I will let you know how much I love.

Does witch hazel burn like an alcohol based aftershave? I've never tried it, but for some reason I don't envision it being soothing like the balms I use...anybody? I use balms b/c of sensitive skin...is witch hazel not a good idea for me?

i use Thayers non-alcoholoc witch hazel.

no burn. makes your skin tighten up and feel great after a shave. also help to stop any small nicks you might have.

i shave, cold rinse, softly pat dry, whipe down the sink to give my face an extra 45seconds of air time to dry, then spritz on the Thayers (bought a small 99cent spritzer bottle from drug store to apply). i do this every time and love it.

ps. the thayers comes in rose / lavender / unscented that i've seen. sold at GNC and other health food stores. 1 bottle will last you a year.

I would say that most or at least many shaving preps especially the balms contain some witch hazel. I think the Thayers is in a class by itself. They have several different varieties and you can order directly from them. I love the stuff. I find even the ones with alcohol never burn. The witch hazel extract is very soothing and the alcohol is more like a carrier for evaporation. I always use it after the shave and then use aftershave after that though you really don't need the aftershave after that. They have a superhazel product which is medicated witch hazel that is fantastic. A little of that and any razor burn you have is gone instantly.

Is that superhazel unscented? I've been using Dickenson's as an aftershave and love it but I'm interested in your description of removing the razor burn with the superhazel.

No Steve, the superhazel has a menthol/peppermint type of smell. Really good stuff -I don't know if I like the smell too much but man, this stuff really freezes your face and handles irritation well.

I like the Dickinson ---smells like witch hazel to me ---nearly no smell.

Pity, I can't stand menthol scents. Sounds like a good product though.

Every now and again I'll take out my concoction of witch hazel and clubman aftershave, if I'm not going to use cologne. Kind of the best of both worlds.

    -calendula extract
    -clove oil
